“I know. I’m emotional. I’m weird when I’m emotional. Emotions are weird.”
He nodded. He knew exactly how she felt. But he wasn’t about to admit that. Instead, he changed the subject. “You sound tired.”
“It’s been a hell of a week,” she replied quietly, sinking into him a little further. He let himself relax a little too. “I haven’t gotten much sleep.”
“Don’t you want to go back to the dorms, then? You and Water have separate rooms. You won’t actually have to talk to him. Not until you’re ready.”
“No.” She shook her head. “No. I… I don’t want to leave right now. I want to stay here. And I want you to stay here too, with me.”

Summary
A beat. Until the grating noise of heavy stone dragging against stone echoes throughout the space. Purple eyes dart up to find the lid of the coffin being pushed to the side by a pale, slender hand. A thud shakes the room as the slab impacts the ground.
The individual stares at the coffin intently, waiting in baited breath to see the creature sealed away six hundred years ago, taking the combined effort of humans and witches to ensnare. Will he even get to make his case? Or will he be dead before he can get a word out, a fitting end for someone foolish enough to release an Elder Vampire. The idea, the risk, makes him even more excited.
Finally, a form rises from the coffin.

Summary
If he was being honest Legundo had not expected any of the vampires to believe his lie during the town meeting. The lie was intended for humans, an attempt to protect the vampires in town. It seems to have worked. None of the vampires have been kicked out and in fact there was now a ‘townie vampire hangout’ (named by Drift) happening, which he believes will be a much better support group for the vampires than the castle.
The only issue is Drift invited him to this hangout in the middle of town, he couldn't exactly admit to not being a vampire less than an hour after he lied. Or well he couldn't admit it to the humans, the town vampires had a right to know that he lied, they had all trusted him with their secret, he didn't want to repay that back by lying.

The wound throbbed underneath the bandages he'd wrapped around his neck to conceal its existence. It hadn't hurt this much in ages, and his theory was that Oakhurst's magic somehow messed with the never truly healed scar that whatever creature had attacked him had left behind.
"The doctor is busy," he mumbled to himself. "You can deal with it."

Avid was tired, he’d felt the fatigue line his body since he’d picked up that damned seed pod. Massy, as it called itself, was an ever present being in Avid’s head. To the point where Avid couldn’t tell whose thoughts were whose. The one thing he knew for sure, with a damning certainty, nothing that came from his mouth were his words.
It sounded too much like him, it clouded his head, but resting deep beneath all of that; Avid was watching from afar. The real Avid, not this thrall that had taken the scientists place.

Avid stared at his hands, shaking. Elle—Elle’s corpse—lay at his feet, blood pooling from the stake in her chest. She had attacked him. Elle had attacked him, and Avid had killed her. His first instinct, as it was with everything, was to flee. To grab his pack from off the shelf by the door and keep running until this horrible scene was left so far behind him it wasn’t real anymore. Elle’s eyes were open beneath the hair strewn across her face, empty and unseeing. Despite that, her stare seemed almost accusatory, like she was reprimanding him for even considering leaving her there to rot on the floor of their lab.
Oh God. Elle was dead on the floor of their laboratory, and Avid had killed her.

Marmalade was everything Avid wanted to be. Really- she was a mirror into a world where he was better; smarter, more likable, less selfish, prettier.
She was the one who'd been able to create her own design for a machine, even if she'd gotten it wrong, and he'd only come along afterwards to change it into something else. She was the one everyone liked, the one people actively requested to talk to and make trade deals with.
