There’s sentiment there for Luthen, she knows, but something darker to it. He likes Kleya best left tucked away listening to the radio; Cassian can bleed and bruise for the Cause, already has. There’s an echo in their stories, a mirror across the years, across the battle lines, but where he still sees the cowering child in her and obligation conjures protective pity, in Cassian, she’ll slowly comes to realize, it conjures possessive pride.

Wilmon doesn’t remember Clem. He’s heard about Clem all his life in a strange sort of way that makes it sound as if he’s gone and never quite wants to acknowledge why or admit it’s forever. He knows. Dad made sure he knows, knows what they took and then left once they were sure they’d have no problem from Ferrix ever again.
They took Cassian, too. He doesn’t remember it, but he does remember when Cassian came back, and how quickly the town went from being happy he was back to tolerating him being around.

Avoided her eyes while he worked it through and she didn’t like this, any of it, and couldn’t help but feel she’d missed out on something of dire importance in the events unfolded on Ferrix.

What he’s missed, apparently, from the other end of a radio, missions assigned and instructions transmitted, after-action reports given in careful code, is, “My father once said that from the time they were kids, you could chart the seasons on Ferrix by whether Bix and Cass were never leaving each other’s side or never speaking to each other again.”
It takes no small effort to keep his irritation from his face, even as he tries to discern its root. That Cassian looked to her to help piece him back together – or that Luthen could not see it, anticipate it, when they sent him off.
Or maybe he just chafes once more at the notion of someone touching his things.

Summary
It’s the first drink Jamie’s had in - well, in long enough that he’s not really sure when he last had a drink. It’s some sugary thing, overly sweet, makes his throat dry and sticky with traces of vanilla, the half empty glass sitting damp in his hand. It’s made all the sweeter by the fact that Roy bought it for him, a low command of 'just one' pressed right against Jamie’s ear as Roy slid past him to order up at the bar. It’s hard to know which has him feeling drunker - the alcohol, or the way Roy is staring at him from across the booth, eyes dark and looking straight at Jamie as he takes another sip.
He can blame it on the booze when he speaks next.
“Sometimes,” he says, and he knows Roy hears him, can tell in the way that his eyebrows shift slightly - and isn’t that a thought, that he can read Roy Kent that well. “Sometimes, I think about - you hurting me."
