Summary
How far will someone go to protect those they love? How can a bright-eyed child be turned into the family outcast? Maybe it is suffering or solitude. Maybe it is a combination of the two. When Zeus’s eyes are drawn to Athena, he cannot allow himself to act on these feelings…not towards his pure child at least. This leaves the second eldest, Ares, at the king’s mercy. More and more, Athena watches her little brother change into someone she no longer recognizes. Perhaps she was a bad judge of character or perhaps there is more to the story that her brother’s cloak always shielded her from.

Summary
Not only had he brought Rapunzel back, but he’d saved her life. A heroic feat, and one completely unbefitting of him. Eugene wasn’t sure he was even capable of growing into those footsteps he’d set for himself, no matter how much time he’d be given. A lifetime worth of growth wouldn’t shape him into a person worthy of consideration.
“Is that so?” asked the Queen, though instead of cutting through the tension, it only added to it. A million expectations, dozens of other accomplishments that would be attributed to him by association. He’d saved a life, had traded his own for that of the Princess, and would now have to answer to her parents. And they would find out that it was a one time thing, that he hadn’t done it because he valued her status as royalty but because he’d found something worth living for in her, because he’d realised that the world needed more people like her, and no matter what he said, it wouldn’t land. He didn’t have the grace to wrap it up nicely; whatever he could think of would be dropped at their feet, clumsy like a boy.

Or: For the first time in a long time, Eugene feels completely out of his depth. He deals with it the same way he’s dealt with all things, until now.

Summary
Ares represents the good and bad of war, the bloodshed and terror but also the bravery and self sacrifice.
I'm a big fan of the poem remains so I figured I'd try my hand at rewriting it from the perspective of the god of war.
In my mind when PTSD started to become a major thing amongst soldiers it had to affect the god of war, because how else could he be the god of war if he didn't represent those left behind.
Somethings will have changed and somethings will be less effective but I think over all it should be an interesting read.
Check the tags, better safe than sorry.

This means that generally, Ares was aware of his habits such as the order he took on tasks, what kind of mortals he spent his time with, and where he tended to go to sit back and watch as chaos unfolded around him. On most days when this knowledge was used, it led to Ares, someone who also found himself enjoying a bit of chaos when the mood struck despite the image he presented of himself, joining him peacefully with some good-natured ribbing and often a bit of roughhousing.
This was not most days.
