Summary
It broke his heart, it did, that he’d come to associate Ed’s touch with violence, his voice with screamed curses. He deserved every bit of it, of course, being the one who broke the man in the first place. But his crew, marooned and left for dead or narrowly drowned, didn’t deserve to pay for Stede’s crimes. That was when Ed went too far — when Blackbeard became an enemy of Stede’s — and he went about serving him tit for tat, tongue in cheek and thumbing his nose.
It all seemed so very… childish, now, didn’t it?

With time, open and honest conversation, quite a bit of crying, and some fucking eye opening realisations… The trust had been rebuilt. Not just between himself and Stede but between himself and himself. Two sides of one man so long at war with each other finally reconciled.
He trusted Stede with his vulnerabilities, but he trusted himself to show them. Trusted himself to let go of total control. To have feelings and fears, desires, depth. Nuanced emotions being felt for the first time. It was incredible. Intoxicating.
