Summary
After 27 years, Earth's Hail Mary comes through. After the beetles are spotted, Eva Stratt forces her way into the CSA office to learn what the Hail Mary crew discovered. Downloading the data is slow and happens in pieces, so the team has to try piecing together what happened out in the Tau Ceti system.
Eva Stratt is faced with the reality of what she did to Grace, watching him deal with the situation she put him in, leading to a complex mix of emotions. Part of her wishes things could have been different. But she knows that wishing on a star is useless.

But survival becomes far more complicated when he’s paired with Peeta Mellark, the baker’s son whose quiet warmth and unexpected loyalty challenge everything Gale believes about strength and mercy.
As the Capitol turns their suffering into entertainment, Gale becomes a reluctant participant—a young man forced to choose between preserving his humanity and playing the monster they want him to be.
In a world that rewards cruelty, loving someone might be the most dangerous act of all.
