It had consumed his thoughts, the way she had almost tackled him in enthusiasm the first time she did it, and then the way she had yielded to him when he’d initiated it the second, almost like they were speaking to each other without words. He still felt rather clumsy when it came to talking, and the prospect of being able to understand and communicate with each other without the need for it was more appealing than he could resist. Increasingly eager, he playfully scooped her up in his arms, maneuvering her to carry her on his back as he ran the final stretch.
