    We never actually see the first time Merlin meets Morgana in the show, even though we witness his first meetings with all the other major characters. That always annoyed me, so I decided to write my own version of their first encounter.

    And since I’ve always loved stories that come full circle — and especially ones that lean into tragedy — I wrote both their first and last moments together. But in this version, Merlin and Morgana are in love: two people destined to fight, and doomed to love.

    The lines “Forgive me” and “Next time you knock me over, try to catch me before I hit the ground” came to me unexpectedly — and yet they fit so perfectly in both scenes, as if they were meant to be there all along.

    I hope you enjoy this fic as much as I loved writing it.
