Moments in time slowly drill their way through, picking an open scab until it turns to scar tissue. It will break your skin until it drains you. You will deteriorate into ashes, scattered by the wind.
And if you force yourself against Fate, shielded with a lifetime of trauma that you use to protect yourself– you’re forced to recognize why you put the walls up in the first place. Every moment full of agony, abuse, anguish.
Your walls will crumble, because Fate never fails.
And as Fate tore the first wall apart, Simon was pushed.

He opens his door to find Damian Wayne standing there with two swords in both his hands, visibly fuming. This would probably be more intimidating if the squirt weren’t at eye level with the middle of his autopsy scar and dressed like a walking traffic light.
“Hello, Red Hood,” Damian grits out between his teeth.
“Sup, Robin,” Jason says. “I just got done making mujaddara. You want some?”
Damian stands still as a statue for exactly ten seconds, his grip on his swords knuckle-white. Then he very firmly nods.

Dean didn’t wait for the man to write anything else, storming out of the room and down the stairs. He didn’t stop at the information desk, ignoring Barbara calling his name as he headed for the exit. Strong fingers wrapped around his wrist. He twisted around, breaking the hold and glaring at the man.
“Don’t fucking touch me.”
The man held up his hands. Amusement made his eyes brighter.
“Jason,” Barbara said as she wheeled over to them. “I told you to be gentle. Not bulldoze him.”
Jason, apparently, gave her the finger.
She snorted. “Dean, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to freak you out. Jason is my boyfriend’s little brother.”
Jason stiffened at the words and signed furiously at Barbara. She concentrated on what he was saying before rolling her eyes.
“Jason is not my boyfriend’s little brother. He is completely unrelated to my boyfriend and his whole family. He only puts up with me because I provide him with int—” she cut herself off. “Gossip.”
Jason crossed his arms like he was done with the conversation.

Things had been better between them lately; Dick almost seemed to like him now, or at the very least the hatred that had filled his sneer when Jason had first donned the R had effectively vanished. Dick stopped glaring when Jason wore his old clothes, started testing out increasingly cringey nicknames, and even referred to himself as Jason’s big brother.
It was…nice.

But tonight it is not some new depravity that startles him. It is instead the ingenuity of a figure cloaked in fabric imperceptible to his cowl’s thermal scanning. An invisible man creeping away from his car.
