Summary
Deacon has been tracking this apparent new arrival into the Commonwealth and a lot of things simply don't add up. He decides to try to find out more, undercover, while she is alone at the Third Rail.
I realise this might be a controversial one, but my little brain went and wondered why Deacon was quite soooo keen to get the SS involved in the railroad and I came to the conclusion of - guilty conscience. This story deals in that why. It is part of a wider work that I hope to put here, but this little scene seemed complete enough on its own. Don't get me wrong, I love Deacon, but I do think he can be capable of some quite heartless things, especially if he thinks he's right... he's only human after all.

Summary
Nate wakes up in spring, and works tirelessly to save Shaun all summer long. Winter finds the Sanctuary settlers unprepared for survival, their resources drained dry by Nate's futile quest, and in a last ditch attempt to make up for his failure, he takes a crazy job from Bobbi No-Nose.
Surprisingly, Hancock doesn't murder him for breaking into his strong room and wounding Fahrenheit. Instead, he offers Nate a deal: the Sanctuary settlers can winter in Goodneighbor if Nate works off his debt by becoming Hancock's bodyguard and travelling companion.

Really good slow burn and character development. Differs from canon (the main storyline in particular), but in a good way.
Good to read during private time, but not all at once, for it's length will outlast the night. -
