Azula scowls. “What are we, five? Fine, I swear it on all of my titles.”
“...Swear it on Father.”
“You little--” Azula has to stop and force herself to take a deep breath so she doesn’t accidentally singe off his remaining eyebrow.

Summary
It's well known that Avatar Aang went missing 100 years ago, but when the Fire Nation goes knocking on the Southern Water Tribes door (With fireballs and death) no Avatar turns up and a woman get taken from her home. This action is the first of many that started Ozai's downfall from the throne.
Years later, Sokka and Katara are the main ones running the village-- Hakoda had left three years ago and had yet to return-- that is until Fire Lord Ozai decides he needs to find a way to keep Zuko compliant and find a backdoor into the Northern Water Tribe, and who better than a bride from their sister tribe? Katara needs to learn a new way of life being betrothed to Prince Zuko, teaching herself water bending, and keeping her family safe while in unknown territory. Sokka needs to find a way to rally together the Earth Kingdom and find his father to stop this war, and Zuko needs to figure out why some things in the palace aren't adding up, Ozai be damned.

The Day of Black Sun ends poorly for all involved. Azula tries to make the best of it until Yue receives a message.
Now burdened with (even more) glorious purpose, Azula and Yue set out to change the world. And spirits help anyone who gets in their way.

Azula could do nothing but stare in horror at this thing inhabiting Yue's skin. It held Yue's body awkwardly, like something completely unused to standing but taking inspiration from the aggressive wriggling of a tadpole trying to hatch from a jelly egg.
"The bridge between worlds has collapsed, leaving many stranded in the wrong realm. Many cry out in pain, but some silent others seek to keep the worlds severed eternally.
"This abomination cannot be allowed to happen. Great forces are at work, so greater forces must now rise to stand against them."
And then, like a teacup dropped by an inattentive hand, Yue fell, all at once.

She had never dedicated time to thinking about death–it was a useless endeavor. Now, though, she let herself muse. Her life had been arduous but–and she loathes to admit it–it had gotten better. She had gotten better. It was hard for her to believe, even now after her life had quietly come to an end, but it had happened.
Taking a short breath, she feels a cherished warmth swell within her.
Her next breath stuttered.
That wasn’t right. She had passed on to the Spirit World; she wasn’t supposed to feel warm.

She had been riding for spirits only knew how long. Her legs were growing sore and she could feel the ostrich horse beneath her growing tired as well. She pulled the reins and guided herself and her steed into a small clearing. She made quick work of setting up camp and settled down by her small fire. She ate her rations for the day and then looked up at the sky. When did everything go so wrong? She took a quick drink from her flask, cringing as the burning liquid slid down her throat. She knew where she was heading and sighed, "Didn’t think I’d ever be heading back there." She looked over at the ostrich horse, who just ignored her in favor of the grass around them. She sighed as she looked down at her hands and quietly sang to herself, "It’s a long long way to Ba Sing Se..."

Summary
Zuko and Azula never fall for the rivalry their parents seem set on and grow up closer than they are told they should be, loving each other the only way they know how. Fully willing to burn and be burned for their other half. They make a good team, until Zuko is burned and banished and Azula is alone, outraged (scared), in the weasel-snake den. With her careful instructions, Zuko is able to be presumed missing on his quest for the Avatar and begin his life as a pirate, wrecking havoc on all sides of the war.
Azula's brother refuses to rule ashes by her side and she refuses to let anyone besides herself upset him this much, so the war must end. Her spies spread the rumor that he lives and the Fire people hold out hope for their beloved prince and saving grace. Zuko becomes the captain of 青い炎, or Aoi Honō, Blue Spirit, and Phoenix Prince while Azula becomes the monster that everyone fears. As Zuko is joining and teaching the Avatar, Azula is manipulating her way through conniving nobles and convincing her father the weapon he raised isn't a threat to him. After all, when has a monster of a daughter and a useless son ever overthrown their Fire Lord?
