Summary
Two years ago, Prince Lu Ten was lost at sea with his entire crew, with no body recovered or confirmation of life or death, the Fire Sages urged the royal family to choose a new successor to replace him in the line. Prince Zuko and Princess Azula are both of age to take the throne, but first they must complete a series of tests to prove they are prepared for this position, as every ruler in their family had to. They accomplished every test placed before them and completed every task, until they are faced with one final mission. Given six months to complete their quest, Azula is sent to handle civil unrest in a series of islands while Zuko is tasked to find and slay a great beast that has been terrorizing people across the nations for the last four decades. Every man to take up arms against it has failed.
Tasked with this seemingly impossible mission, he sets forth to track the beast down and end its reign of terror over the people once and for all. Though as he races against time in this journey, he discovers that the burdens of such a quest had led him to a fortuitous crossroads as he wars with his heart and his duty to his people.

On a trip into town, he runs into a man with a story painfully similar to Zuko's who had been able to find a happy life in the earth Kingdom, leaving the ideals of the Fire Nation behind. He is able to help Zuko settle into his new life as well.
