Grian hadn't ever been expecting someone to follow through on courting ritual with him. He'd been crushing hard on his co-worker turned crime-fighting partner for years at this point, and Scar certainly had no idea that avians had that sort of thing. Specific little thoughtful gestures that would send a sign that whoever was doing the deed was interested. And as much as Grian would adore being spoiled by Scar performing all these little things that made his wings ruffle under his red sweater, pleased and basking in the attention, he knew it would never happen. Scar didn't know about avian courtship ritual.
He didn't.
Grian knew that he didn't know.

Chase is technically underage, he’s a year away from being able to drink but the bartender didn’t bother to check his ID. Chase has always looked a little older than he was, it works in his favor now.
Nobody at a hero bar like this would assume he was so young.
“How the fuck do you think that?” Chase asks, spits. His hands still shake with the memory of it. The beer in his hand shakes with the tremors of his hands. “How the fuck do you do it?”
Mechaman sighs, deep, disappointed. He leans back, taking his whiskey with him.
The rest of the Brave Brigade was downstairs, drinking in victory, dancing with the other heroes, celebrating.

Etho had found in the depths so many things.
It was the lowest point of the Under-City, metaphorically and literally. He'd been running jobs for the mobsters that controlled this area for as long as he could remember, another gutter rat trying to make it to his next meal. He wasn't above playing with someone's naive ideas of empathy, he didn't feel bad for manipulating others to pity him as just a helpless kid. A runaway redstone pallet leads him to meet Doc, a creeper mutant with a genius complex and enough sarcasm and bravado to make Etho want to try stabbing him again. The two of them were in direct competition, and Etho hadn't signed on for things getting any more difficult than they already were.
He'd found a lot in the depths. Scraped up enough to survive here. He hadn't been looking for a purpose to put his life on the line, but then again... wasn't that how the very best things were? After all, he hadn't been looking for love, either. Yet here it was.{In which Etho wants to stab anything and everything, Doc's sailing a boatload of trauma topped by a genius complex, nobody is getting out of this intact, and yeah, it was bad, but if it hadn't been bad, they wouldn't have made it out of the dark.}

Just a little one shot on the dinner scene from the second movie. How the conversation might have gone had Diaval been mistaken for Maleficent husband and Aurora’s father and the Queen wasn’t as good at gaslighting.
This was also thought up because I feel like Diaval doesn’t get enough credit for his part in raising Aurora even though he’s pretty much her Godfather with all he does.

As far as trust went, the pendulum seemed to swing wildly with their oddball family. Some days, they’d be clamoring for attention; other days, they’d hide away in their room. After they’d begun school with Cleo, things had started to settle. Or, well, settle being the operative term. Pearl still occasionally would kick or punch at them on instinct when they came up behind her. Grian would be eager for attention one day and jumping at shadows the next. Jimmy, well, he seemed to be the most distressed on the regular. Timid, awkward, quiet...and with a chronic case of bad luck. Then Tango would arrive, without much warning, all flames and claws and poor, needy kid desperate for some kind of reassurance.
Sometime, well...it was just hard to tell if they were doing anything right. Thankfully, the little ones each had their owns ways of letting them know they were doing just fine.
(Five times Doc and Etho take care of their kids, and one time their kids take care of them)

With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
