Obi-Wan’s face softened as he looked, possibly with pity, at the disheveled child. “Anakin, you look like a street urchin. Why are you wearing the same clothes as yesterday?” He sniffed the air around Anakin, as if suggesting he smelled.
Anakin couldn’t tell him the real reason, as his Master would find out for himself soon enough. He had taken the processing board out of their washing machine a few days prior. He had no clean clothes left. “I need to wash my clothes,” he said, opting to keep his explanation simple.
“We can wash them together tonight. My clean robes are also running low, come to think of it,” Obi-Wan agreed.
Anakin began nodding manically, glad that his Master had been assuaged so easily. Obi-Wan gave him a strange look. Anakin slowed the nodding down a notch, realizing that he looked spastic. Act natural, he thought.
“Are you quite alright, Padawan?” Obi-Wan asked, still in the doorway. He tilted his head slightly, quizzical.
OR:
Young Anakin, desperate to make his Master proud, builds him a present. Things, as they are wont to do, go awry and the pair are left to repair more than just the malfunctioning gift.

Summary
There were so many things that Jedi weren’t supposed to do that Anakin struggled to keep it all in his head, but that one he was certain of. Jedi weren’t supposed to be scared, and they weren’t supposed to get angry, and they weren’t supposed to cry. Master Obi-Wan was never scared and he didn’t get angry with Anakin no matter how much he messed up, and Anakin was sure he’d never cried, even after Master Qui-Gon. Anakin just had to be— better. More like Master Obi-Wan.
