Techno... looked like shit. Honestly. There wasn't any beating around the bush, it was a plain fact. The sky was blue, the grass was green, the L'Manburgians were dicks, and Techno looked like he had to use ten Totems of Undying in row.
Phil would know. He'd seen Techno doing that, once. And even then he had been better off doing that than... whatever he was doing now.
"Hi, Tech. Need something?" Phil asked, his voice open, inviting for the piglin to answer. Death, let him actually address the elephant in the room and not brush it off-
"Uh. Hullo. I think I'm in need of a bit of help."

Three years of nonstop battle. Three years of campaigning, of concocting plans and holding things together as budgets faltered and superiors demanded more, as fellow generals assumed he could conjure miracles and therefore failed to actually show up as reinforcements, and Techno’s own side had pulled the rug out from under him. They’d mismanaged so much of the war that defeat had become the favorable option, and then none of them had wanted to take the consequences onto their shoulders.
There had to be a show of faith, they’d said. The Antarctic Empire had traditions when it came to graciously accepting an enemy surrender, and one of them was the delivery of some important adversary into their hands.

Phil stayed quiet in the box and looked down to fighters on the sand. A piglin hybrid with a trident batted the sword of a cat hybrid away and knocked her to the ground. She stared up at him, and the piglin looked to a human in finer armour standing to the side. He nodded, and he stepped back, pulling the trident away from the neck of the cat hybrid.
In his memory, these had been soldiers he’d asked to see more of, but looking at this with the experience of a lifetime, he could see that there were no avians down on the sand, and most of the fighters were wearing collars. Phil glanced around the room. Awful lot of the non-avians in the box were wearing collars too. He tucked his chin into his chest. So he was a child again, and he was a child in a city that kept slaves. Fuckin’ fantastic.
A rabbit hybrid in a red tunic came over with a plate of little snack foods. She offered it to him. “A snack, young master?” She was wearing a collar too.
He did not feel like food. “No, thanks,” Phil said, shaking his head without emerging from his huddle.
Or: Philza gets sent back to his childhood and finds it's fucked up. What could make this worse? Oh, oh finding that Techno is in danger, that's just great.

Summary
Techno, who used to be a slave but destroyed his pit years ago with the help of Philza the Angel of Death, and has since forth raised an Empire based on fairness between hybrids, gets captured by an enemy territory. (Not his finest moment). He’s put in a cell with Ranboo, the people that captured him hoping that either one of them will give in to their instincts and attack or straight up kill one another. Of course neither do, Techno who won’t kill an innocent (is that a fucking child?) person, and Ranboo, who is just a pacifist.
Techno already knows he’s going to abolish this arena, simply for them being stupid enough to try and capture him, but also to give these hybrids a safe place.
But as he counts his days down to his escape, he starts to see similar traits in the child he shares his cell with, that he himself had, when he was just a runt. He starts to wonder if maybe he can be what Philza was for him so long ago, to this poor whelp.
It’s when the child wails about the voices when he finally puts his foot down. He’s going to get this child out of here, carry him to the stronghold, and adopt him.
First step, how does he get this mistreated, mistrustful, clearly traumatized kid out of here exactly?Series

“Little one,” Phil begins softly, straining forward in his chains. He doesn’t have a heartbeat, but pity pangs so strongly inside of him that it feels like one. “I can only- I can try."
