Excellent, well-plotted, well-paced alternate S12.
"The Road Less Traveled". A very well plotted alternate S12. With Mary resurrected, the British Men of Letters meddling in the United States, Lucifer free and likely plotting something, the return of Gabriel is yet another unexpected twist for the Winchesters. Dean and Mary in particular does not trust or like the archangel, but Sam extends an olive branch to Gabriel, only to discover that Gabriel had hoped to become friends, and that due to a deal with Death that Gabriel made in S5 in return for the keys to the Cage information (in which Gabriel agreed to fake his death and leave Earth for 100 years) and that he later violated (when Dean killed Cain), Death has bound all of Gabriel's archangelic powers. (He retains the powers of Loki, who - in this fic - is Gabriel's vessel.) Gabriel tries to avoid telling Sam that, in actual fact, he has been in love with Sam for nearly as long as Gabriel has known him, and that knowing that Sam will likely never accept him, he'd hoped to develop a relationship similar to the one that Dean shares with Castiel. In the meantime, a tarot deck created by Soul Loom by Michael has been activated and is targeting Sam, and for unknown reasons is trying to force him to fall for Gabriel. And in the background, several important and potentially dangerous entities are jockeying to get their hands on a very dangerous artifact from the Necropolis, a place that no one can go to and return from while remaining sane. EXCELLENT.

Summary
This is my "let's imagine that Gabriel lives" post-season 13 series.
When I look at the earliest works, I squirm. That's because I didn't think this would turn into a series and I didn't put nearly as much effort into the first installments as I should have. Thus, there is pretty shoddy continuity. Forgive me: when I began writing this material, I thought, It's just fanfiction; no one cares about continuity. By this point I have quite changed my mind.

Post S13. With Gabriel now in charge of Heaven and Sam leading the AU!Hunters, Sam and Gabriel both take enjoyment in writing Supernatural fanfiction. Both of them have begun shipping Sabriel, believing it to be impossible in the real world. Inevitably their online personas encounter one another and they begin to collaborate, even as their real-life interactions deteriorate into miscommunications. Eventually, they meet at a convention and realize one another's real identities.

S5 divergent fic. Sam turns around and goes back for Gabriel before Lucifer can kill him at Elysium Fields and gives Gabriel permission to possess him in order to save Gabriel. As time goes on, Sam wins Gabriel over to the Winchester's side, and Gabriel develops a fondness for his impromptu vessel. They also begin to realize that Heaven's problems may have been orchestrated by other forces than God, and that the archangel's brothers may have been manipulated into this fight.
A wonderful exploration of a very interesting "what if?"

Gabriel keeps showing up in the Bunker, and Sam finds comfort in his presence, realizing to his heartbreak that he's in love with the archangel. An archangel that such a broken man could never deserve. Meanwhile, Gabriel worries that Sam hates him, or only wants a casual relationship with him, and he cannot bring himself to be anything less than all in.
A beautiful work filled with lots of mutual pining.

Sam accidentally stumbles across the Horn of Gabriel while exploring the storage room in the Bunker. But it's not the only fragment of Gabriel still lingering behind. There's a bit of Grace left on it. A bit of Grace that finds him very...interesting. Sam's not so thrilled, at first. Until curiosity gets the better of him.

S9 divergent fic. Sam discovers Gabriel's Horn in the Men of Letters archives. When he accidentally touches it, he's accosted by the sentient wisp of Grace that Gabriel had left within it to guard it. It develops a fondness for Sam, and Sam finds this ancient relic of the Gabriel-that-once-was, with no Trickster tendencies, a pleasant companion (which helps him to sleep without dreams, and occasionally invades them). That fondness grows into outright love, until the Grace is seemingly destroyed. (The sequel deals with the climatic reveal that Gabriel was alive the whole time, but captured by Metatron, and the Winchesters rescue him, and also that Sam's exposure to Gabriel's Grace has re-awoken his dormant psychic abilities.)
Possibly the best S9 Gabriel-was-alive-and-captured-by-Metatron story that I've ever read, and my favorite characterization of Gabriel during that time period.

Good thing Sam knows a certain archangel who Kali owes a favor.

S8 / S9 fic. Sam is blinded by a blood curse cast by a demon that knew Ruby. The demon was killed immediately by the backlash and consequently the curse cannot be removed without killing Sam as well, unless he is bound to another entity. Since Gabriel has been helping, at Castiel's request, Gabriel offers to be this anchor. Sam gets upset, worried that such a binding is sort of romantic in nature, and he does not want to put Gabriel in position of binding himself to Sam if that is not what Gabriel would want normally, especially when it feels like taking advantage of the archangel's surprisingly helpful nature.

Summary
Sam and Dean are working a case in Wyoming, but are distracted by news of a dangerous angel called "Castiel" who they can't remember ever having heard of before. The name seems a little bit familiar, but neither of the boys is sure why.
Based off of mid-season 9 (before mark of Cain, before the angel army); takes place several months later, in September 2014. Case fic wrapped in a big ol' amnesia mystery. NO SLASH; the idea is that this is something they could do on the actual show, like a 3-4 episode arc with some mini cases and a cool story running through it all. GETS VERY EMOTIONAL with super strong friendship/family themes, lotsa hurt/comfort, about three metric tons of Cas angst, feels galore, plus monsters and M&M's.

S9 fic. Sam and Dean are forced to wipe all the memories of Castiel from their mind so that a Minotaur cannot target him. However, they don't remember casting the spell so they do not know to reverse it once the danger is passed and so don't recognize Castiel when the encounter him in Yellowstone sometime later. Despite Castiel's low self-esteem and worry that remembering will harm them, they work the case together, discovering that a particularly insane angel is trying to force the magma elemental under Yellowstone to erupt the super-volcano. (Realizing, belatedly, that Buddy is someone they once knew, they rush to regain their memories and then to save their formerly angelic friend.)

Dean Winchester’s been camp manager of a science research station on the Alaskan tundra for thirteen years. Dean likes his job; fixing the camp trucks, troubleshooting the generators, keeping clueless undergrads and NSF bigwigs from walking into grizzly bears or getting lost in snowstorms — it’s all in a day’s work. It keeps him pretty busy, and this year his brother Sam's visiting too, so he's even busier. So it’s really not any of Dean’s business when some weirdo antisocial ornithologist sets up a tent a few miles away, a dark-haired blue-eyed guy who’s doing a “very long-term" study on birds or wings or something, and who never, ever takes off his big lumpy backpack. But then the new guy starts dropping by camp for coffee and... well, he’s not officially part of camp; he's not Dean’s responsibility; he’s really not Dean’s problem at all, but when a strange blizzard comes sweeping in, Dean gets worried and goes to check. Thing is, Dean's spent years in the sweeping vistas of the Arctic. SPOILERS FOR THE STORY IN MY DESCRIPTION
In an alternate universe, Mary Winchester never made her demon deal, John Winchester never raised his children to be hunters, and Sam and Dean lived normal human lives. Some 14 years after John Winchester died in a horrific bear attack while hunting in Alaska, Sam has just finished law school (delayed due to John's weird obsessions and poor financial decisions) and is visiting Dean at a research station in the arctic circle in Alaska where Dean manages the station (repair work and safety for the scientists and other workers) before starting an internship with the big oil company located nearby. They unexpectedly encounter a bird researcher the station had been told to leave alone, named Castiel, and odd things begin to occur. Namely, after telling Castiel that Sam would really like to see a wolf, a wolf suddenly appears and behaves oddly docile nearby. Sam soon departs to AP oil under the management of a young woman named Ruby, and while he's away, Dean slowly begins to fall for (and worry about) Castiel, the lonely bird researcher who seems desperately ill-equipped for surviving alone in the arctic.
[It is eventually revealed that this universe learned from the canon universe that traditional attempts at the Apocalypse will not work, and have instead tried to push humans into killing themselves off with climate change. However, to ensure their success, they've tried to keep Team Free Will from forming, by isolating Castiel and avoiding interfering with the Winchester's lives. Thankfully, Gabriel and Balthazar weren't down with the plan, and have been subtly working to subvert it. By making sure that Castiel and Dean eventually meet and by insisting that Castiel be left *mostly* unharmed.]

Gabriel, Cas, Sam & Dean are all living in the bunker together, Gabe's been cracking certain jokes, Sam's found a certain book, Cas is injured and isn’t healing... and it's all making Dean wonder if his angel friend might have some sort of a "bond" with... somebody? Whatever that means.
Maybe it's time for a talk.
(This fic is platonic Destiel, in this case meaning: no smut, Dean's truly straight, and whatever Cas’s "bond" is, it's not sexual. But it's deep, and it matters.)

I never would have thought that this cross-over was going to work, but it's what accidentally got me into Supernatural, so I consider it the best thing ever. It is awesome, and includes everything you could wish for in a cross-over of these two shows.
In which Sam and Dean discover that they are summon-able across universes when Merlin summons them to Camelot in order to aid with an outbreak of otherworldly (SPN) monsters.

Post Harry Potter novels and tracing the events of S4 - S10 of Supernatural, Harry first encounters the Winchesters when dementers attack Muggle civilians during the Apocalypse, and the Winchesters realize that Harry is involved with a Seal. Initially distrustful of one another, Harry and the Winchesters become friends, and from time to time, Harry and his friends try to help the Winchesters, sometimes lessening or outright fixing problems for the Winchesters. (Mostly canon compliant, but occasionally canon fix-it.)
Remaining beautifully true to the canon and characters of both series.

An unusually good Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Who crossover, originally written in French, that sounds unbelievably authentic. The first time I read it, I could have easily believed that it came from the pen of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself. It stars the 10th Doctor and Rose, as well as Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes.
