Now, don’t get him wrong, Grian loves to push the line. One of his favorite pastimes is to tease his fellow Hermits, see how far he can get them to bend and how many rules he can skirt around before trouble comes. And usually, Scar’s a pretty good sport about it, because Scar loves pushing right back. The two of them can usually craft an entertaining game of lies and bargains between them, which is probably why Scar’s one of his best friends.
This is different, though, and Grian’s not sure why, but it’s no longer a game to Scar. That makes him falter, which makes the donkey do the same, trotting forward a few steps before halting.
“Scar?” he asks, just checking in, and Scar doesn’t respond. That’s worrisome—Grian hops down from the saddle, pulls Stu back to Scar. “Are you all right?”

Ridding the evidence of weakness from his features, his pale cheeks turned bright red in frustration. “Fuck off, Dickhead!” he yells, feeling dread bubble in his stomach at the noticeable warble in his voice from crying. He hated feeling weak, he made it a point to never show his deep feelings with the foster parents he's been around.

“That’s probably the pizza.”
“Yeah, I’m sure it is. I’ll get it.” Wilbur plucks Techno’s wallet from the side table and crosses the space between the living room and the front door, nudging his shoes aside in favor of answering the door.
Wilbur opens the door, creaky hinges and all, and stops. Gilded in the moth light is a boy- young and old at the same time, a golden halo dirtied and worn. His eyes are familiar- a sight he had not seen in three years time.
Wilbur stares at his little brother, who stares right back. Then he shifts, taps a toe on the ground, and clears his throat.
“I didn’t.. I didn’t know where else to go.”
