Summary
The Checkmate series is a canon-divergent Dream SMP AU in which Tommy never made it to Techno's house after escaping his exile, and is caught by Dream and dragged right back to Logstedshire. In this AU, Tommy is with Dream for a little over a year, with stricter rules and harsher punishments to keep him in line. Enduring Dream's abuse and manipulations for so long, Tommy finally breaks the way Dream wants him to; devoting himself well and truly to his former arch-nemesis, as they both fall for Dream's 'best friend' facade.
L'Manberg believes him to be dead. Ranboo, Puffy and Phil have been missing for a year. Technoblade and Ghostbur have set off in search of Phil. Everything is in shambles. Relationships have split apart; others have grown and flourished. With no other choice but to try to move on from their losses, most of the remaining citizens of L'Manberg are doing whatever they can to take control of their lives again, to find happiness. With Techno gone, L'Manberg is somehow more at peace than it had been in a long time, even with Dream looming over their heads - there's nothing to fear, so they think.
None of them are accounting for Tommy's return.

Summary
Everything was fine at first, the mattress was comfortable and he was warm in his blankets. He let his eyes drift shut, and tried to slow down his breathing a bit so that he’d go to sleep faster.
Then the noises came.
The knocking on the walls. It wasn’t loud, but quiet and rapid. Tommy unfortunately was a light sleeper and woke up easily. He decided to ignore it, believing it to be noises that the house made.
Then there was scratching.
The scratching was slow and steady, not like the scratching of a cat trying to get into your room, but it was careful and calculated.
He ignored it.
Next was the rattling of the doorknob, desperate and aggressive. Tommy was glad that his door was locked, a routine he’d been accustomed to to ensure his privacy whilst sleeping, but now he was thankful as he’d had no idea why someone was trying so hard to open his door.
Then it stopped.
Or: Tommy lives in a house with Dream, the ghost that originally had owned it. One day, the owners of the Sleepy Boys Inc. ghost hunting business get him out, and make him truly realize just how trapped he was.

Tubbo always felt quite protective of his best friend, the hardships of war and the loss of childhood innocence hadn’t worn those feelings down, quite the opposite actually. Especially now, when Tommy seems more broken and fragile than ever, barely a shadow of his former self. Tubbo may have utterly failed in the past, but he’s going to make up for it, he swears it.
After all, no one’s allowed to hurt Tubbo-fucking-Underscore-Beloved’s family, not anymore (:

Or: Tommy gets Resurrected and released from the prison, he's traumatized and broken from his experience. He's big sad but Tubbo says "No💖" and takes him to the Mansion in Snowchester, and he's not going to be letting him leave again. Ranboo nods approvingly in the background.

Summary
Tommy, after being exiled from his home kingdom flees to the surface. He was always told to never go past the walls of the kingdom growing up because the people on the surface would be less than kind. To never leave the water because it meant certain death. “Trying to blend in is too risky!” The elders would say. Stories and warnings echoed in his mind; if the surface dwellers caught you, they would cut off your tail and rip out your vocal cords.
Fear of the surface gripped him but any more months in exile would drive him over the edge so he leaps the walls, swims to the surface and goes as far as he can away from the water. Who knew the journey to escape would lead him to the arctic.
Meanwhile, a disappearance threatens to disrupt the already unstable peace between the four major kingdoms. Years of discrimination and misinformed fear are forced to be realized and a sweeping munch-needed change is coming.
Or
Tommy is a refugee siren that escapes exile and ends up bunking with Technoblade. Poltical drama happens along the way.

Contracts. The vessel of the gods. Demi-gods newly formed and born. Each of these Contracts are made for a divine purpose given to them. They’re sent into the mortal world to help mortals where the gods themselves can’t do nor interfere because they simply don’t have enough time for or do not care.
That’s what Dream had told him. His purpose was to heal, to support, but what Dream had told him rarely made sense with other things Dream had said to him. If Tommy was created to heal the mortals and protect them, then why? Why did Dream keep him confined to only his shrine and the small borders surrounding it?
Or Tommy is a demi god in Dreams "care", when he hears a knock at his door and meets some people who change his life

“Yeah, sure,” Tommy agreed, knowing that if they said he was kidnapped, it would keep people from getting suspicious of why he was seen in public with Siren. “Anyway, can I get the chicken nuggets happy meal, with a coke?”
or, how Tommy—who is not a hero, or a villain, or even a vigilante—saves the life of one of L'Manberg's most feared supervillains, and accidentally ends up becoming the resident doctor for every supervillain in town (and maybe gets a family along the way too).
