He takes in a heavy breath and pretends these cheap sunglasses hide his dark circles as they wheel the poor kid in.
"Hey," Gojo rasps. "Miss me?"
Megumi's eyes go wide in horror. His jaw hangs slightly agape. He's breathing too fast. He doesn't say a word.
“Fushiguro?” Yuji's hand hovers over his shoulder. Megumi smacks it away harshly.
He trembles as he gets to his feet, then trips unceremoniously toward the foot of Gojo's hospital bed. Satoru instinctively reaches out to catch him, but he's too slow in his sewn-up state, and Yuta gets there first.
There's tears running down the kid's face. Guilt is a weighty boulder between the two of them.
Megumi claps his shaking hand over his mouth, but he can’t contain an emotional dry heave. Yuta escorts him to the trashcan so he can sob and vomit freely in terror.
Gojo sits there stupidly, unable to do anything else.

Gojo lives to pick up the pieces of Megumi. And there's a lot to pick up.

Our favorite boys, Chuuya and Dazai, got Vegas hitched when they were eighteen, drunk, and very stupid. It was a mistake that should have been fixed by morning. But neither of them ever filed the annulment papers.
Now, four years later, Fyodor Dostoevsky has found their marriage certificate and decided to make it everyone's problem, starting with kidnapping Chuuya and broadcasting it to the Armed Detective Agency.
Dazai's going to need a very good explanation, and possibly a rescue plan. In that order.
(Two idiots got married and forgot about it. Fyodor didn't let them forget. Now they'll have to wade through what could have been and what might yet be.)

Or, how their relationship developed since they were 16, all the way through Dazai's time hidden and during the canon events.

Summary
For my Soukoku, Dazai and Chuuya have a healthy relationship. When they first met, they got off on the wrong foot, and while they became attracted to each other very quickly, neither even allowed themselves to realize it, as their subconscious was trying to protect them from rejection and they disguised their feelings as antipathy. Once they reunited in the Port Mafia's prison, they recognized their long-suppressed feelings, and so they no longer had a reason to fight (in their personal lives).
So if you're into the kind of Soukoku where they have a very unhealthy, destructive relationship - the whole I hate you but I want you - you will NOT find it here.
This series is basically slice-of-life. It begins in the Port Mafia's prison, and because that goes differently, I diverge from canon fairly quickly afterward. Think of it as the butterfly effect. Changing Dazai & Chuuya's dynamic ends up affecting broader events to create an alternate timeline. So most things from chronologically subsequent arcs won't occur in this divergence.

After a peace agreement is signed between the Port Mafia and the Armed Detectice Agency, ex-partners Nakahara Chuuya and Dazai Osamu are required to fight together again to solidify the alliance of the two organisations.
But things seem worse than expected when Mori Ougai sends the two away on a one-month mission to a far-away city to defeat an organisation that’s been climbing up the ranks. The two detest it but go along with it, swearing to finish the mission within a week.
But living together is nothing like what they expected. It changes everything, and suddenly the two are falling for each other with no idea what’s going on.
And then there’s everything that happens afterwards...

Gojo pushed himself away from the railing for a moment. "Hey, I really wanna hear the end of that story, but I'm gonna grab a drink. Can I grab you something?"
Megumi froze, and then slowly looked over at him. Was this real? Was THE Satoru Gojo offering to do something nice for him?
Gojo spoke quickly though, irritation evident in his voice. "I'm trying to be nice, and you can obviously see that it's killing me so can you just answer the damn question?"
Megumi tried (and failed) to hide a smile. "I don’t really drink but I'll take one of whatever you decide to get for yourself. And thank you."
"What if I get something nasty?"
"Then I guess I'll know for sure that you're a disgusting individual." Megumi answered, as he turned to look back toward the sky again, his back to Gojo now.
Gojo squinted at him. "Maybe I'll get you something fuckin' delicious, and then spit in it. Just to torture you."
"Oh wow." Megumi responded sarcastically. "Then I guess I'll be the first person to ever swallow any of your bodily fluids."

“I’m sorry,” Megumi says quietly. “For being such an inconvenience.”
“There’s nothing inconvenient about having a beautiful boy staying in my apartment.”
Megumi ignores the compliment, his expression serious. “No, really. I’ve been a lot of trouble for you.”
Gojo’s laughter fades, and his tone becomes more serious as he reaches out with startling accuracy, his hand finding Megumi’s chin and gently tilting his face upward. “Megumi, listen to me.”
The weight of Gojo’s words makes Megumi’s breath catch.
“I need to take care of you because it’s my fault you got hurt. I should’ve been paying more attention. If I had just been more aware of the curse you were assigned to, none of this would have happened.”
Megumi’s heart sinks at Gojo’s words.
So that’s all this was. Gojo wasn’t helping him because he cared; he was helping him out of a sense of duty, out of guilt.
The realization cuts deeper than Megumi expected.
Here he was, thinking that he was developing feelings for Gojo—thinking that maybe, just maybe, Gojo felt something too. But now, it seems laughable. Gojo’s actions weren’t born from affection; they were born from a sense of obligation.
