No matter what Grace tries to tell him, Simon is very sure that the man is divine in nature. It just makes sense.

Simon winds up in The Enclosure, naturally. Grace is super down to have human company on planet Erid, but he really wishes someone would have given him a little bit of warning first. Especially about Simon’s religious cult upbringing — if he had known about that, he maybe could have planned a better-worded greeting that wasn’t basically, “Be Not Afraid.” He really set them up for failure with that one.

Hylian faces looked alien in this light, escaping the grasp of familiarity. He watched them for a moment longer, hoping the old man would be there among them. Then, self-pitying in his failure to find him, he let his head loll back against the pillow with a groan.
The pillow that shifted beneath him, to his mild alarm. A rumble of laughter met his ears, vibrating against his skin.
“Had a good nap?” came the old man’s voice, soft and amused.

Whatever happened here was bad. Irrevocably, inexplicably, inarticulably bad in a way that the most basal parts of his being wants nothing more than to escape from. But Grace can't turn away.
After encountering what appears to be a last hoo-ra emergency mission attempt from Earth caught up in the Hail Mary's wake, Grace and Rocky discover a single, severely injured human being quite literally encased in what Grace can only describe as a crime scene. A horror movie. And when he wakes up? He's mad. Really mad. Talking to the walls mad. Now they have to figure out just where he came from and why. Things are further complicated when all the newcomer (Simon, they learn) can talk about is missing planets, haunted oceans, and non-existent space stations. That and the really weird data they've been picking up on.
Maybe part of solving that is, much to Rocky's enthusiasm; both Grace and Simon slowly realizing how lonely they are.Series

When Simon wakes up in a completely different environment, he's not expecting that he actually survived. He's not expecting the doctor dressed in too-colorful clothes either, but he comes to appreciate it all sooner rather than later.
Grace was not expecting to ever have human company again, but one day, the Eridians find a human out in space and bring him home.
They've both been traumatized, they're both fucked up, and together they learn how to live again, falling in love along the way and doing everything in the wrong order, but it works for them all the same.
Or: Another Simon appears mysteriously and survives then falls in love with Grace fic, with lots of crying, and loving, and eventually kissing.
