“Please don’t take her,” Steve begs, even as it falls on deaf ears. They keep walking, unrelenting.
“Steve!” Robin’s voice cracks, fear breaking through it as she scuffles with her captors. He can’t stop them. There’s nothing he can do.
“I’ll find you!” Steve yells, hoping she knows he means it. Hoping that she knows he’ll do everything he can to get her home safe. “I promise I’ll come find you!”
The door slams shut.
Robin is gone.
Steve isn't the only one who gets tortured by the Russians.

For most of her young childhood, Natalie stumbles her way through her sentences. It doesn’t happen all the time. When she’s playing with Van or reading aloud from her favorite book, the words flow easily, slipping smoothly from her lips in a way that makes her mother smile fondly. But when Natalie gets nervous introducing herself in front of strangers or giving an answer after being called on in class, her words get stopped up in the back of her throat and the sounds stutter from her mouth. She gets stuck on her ‘s’ words the most, but sometimes gets stuck on entire words, and they tumble from her mouth over and over as she tries to move on to the next word.
Van knows this and has never once made Natalie feel bad about the impediment.

"Max! Hey- Max! Max, wake up!" He started mumbling while gently slapping the side of Max's face. That's when he noticed it, an angry red bruise on Max's left cheek, as well as a trail of blood dripping from her forehead down to the ground.

This is Book 2 of my rewrite of the entire Sonic the Hedgehog story with a focus on Shadow and Maria and the 50 year timeskip between the events upon the ARK and SA2 removed. This part begins at the very end of Sonic Adventure 1, and can be enjoyed without having read Book 1.

You two must follow me,” he starts to briskly walk out of the testing wing, looking back with urgency after a few steps, “Quickly!” At that, Shadow takes Maria's hand, following the professor’s pace. Once they leave the safety of the testing wing, Shadow’s ear twitches, picking up a faint sound. A repetitive banging, much deeper into the arc. It only takes a moment to identify.
Gunshots.
In an alternate timeline where Gerald is alerted of upcoming GUN raid months in advance. Long enough to make a contingency plan. Now G.U.N. isn't going to get their hands on either of his wards, they won't get their weapon, or lay a hand on dear Maria. He just hopes they forgive him one day, even if he doesn't live to see it.
Aka Shadow and (Alive!)Maria get woken up from stasis during SA2 and end up with the wrong crowd.
