The next time Arthur doesn’t say thank you, Gwaine puts his hand on Merlin’s back, stroking down the long length of it, from the short curls of hair at the nape of his neck to the neat cinch of his waist.
“Thanks,” he praises, throwing a wink to an agape Arthur as he does. It’s wonderful.
So wonderful, in fact, that for the next fortnight, for every brusque word that spills from Arthur’s lips, Gwaine spills three sweet ones.

"Arthur waited on the training field in full armour, his surcoat pristine with the Pendragon crest sewn on in shimmering thread by Guinevere (by far the best seamstress in Camelot). He held his head high and proud, shoulders back, spine straight and drawn up to his full height. He looked resplendent, and knew as much by the second and third glances that came his way from nobles and servants alike as he strode the corridors, then the grounds. Suitably intimidating then. After all, he needed the best; he wasn’t going to go any easier on Merlin’s friend just because that was who it was.
The man that walked up to him gave Arthur pause. He wore chainmail and a surcoat dyed a shade of orange that ought to look garish and unprofessional, yet somehow complemented the would-be knight’s dark complexion. His deep-brown eyes and hair to match fell just above his shoulders, and his chin was shadowed with stubble kept neat. He stood half an inch shorter than Arthur, though held himself with quiet confidence. The angles of his face were statuesque and they captivated Arthur as much as any fine piece of art."

Summary
Arthur—a well-off biomedical engineer who designs artificial joints—has been lusting after Merlin in the gym but never thought to actually make a move. Then his flatmate Gwaine makes a move instead, and suddenly Merlin is around their flat all the time, funny and gorgeous and no longer available.
Arthur can almost deal with that, but then his sister goes and ruins their father’s career and blows up their entire family in the process, and Arthur can’t deal with anything anymore. Not his job, and especially not Merlin, who is frustratingly kind and supportive. And who invites Arthur along on his business trip to Canada so that Arthur can get away from the drama.

Merlin—a trans video games concept artist—is back in London after several years in Montréal, enjoying his new freelance job. He reconnects with a uni friend, Gwaine, who happens to live with Arthur, the guy Merlin has been eyeing at the gym. Things with Gwaine are fun and hot, and it’s only a little awkward whenever he has to interact with Arthur. But then they keep interacting more and more, and, soon enough, they are good enough friends that Merlin feels compelled to invite Arthur with him on a trip back to Canada.

Summary
Merlin has no reason whatsoever to trust Mordred, and more than a few reasons not to. He's seen the signs, been warned more than enough times, and all the energy he's wasted in the past trying to thwart the Dragon's prophecies pretty much just proves that the future is already decided. Destiny is painting Mordred as the villain, and so far, it's not been wrong.
Distrusting him is easier said than done, though, particularly when half of Camelot seems to think Merlin's hopelessly infatuated with him.

Summary
“I never believed that you would betray me,” Arthur says, because Merlin knows him, even if the same might not be true the other way around. Merlin could tell when he was lying, when he was lashing out to protect himself, long before a bond tore down all the defences Arthur so carefully erected around himself. “Do not pretend that you ever believed me capable of truly hating you. The way Merlin’s face twists reveals that there is another story there, and words echo within Arthur’s head, guttural and ancient—a half cannot truly hate that which makes it whole.
He wants to laugh at the truth of it, at the absurdity of it all. Here they are, a prince and a servant, Uther Pendragon’s son and one of the most powerful sorcerers to ever walk the earth—caught up in a fight over who possesses more devotion, who is going to ruin themself for the other’s sake first.
