A 1920's AU, in which Merlin is Arthur's long-suffering valet.
"Merlin turned out to be a truly terrible valet. Really, a creature less inclined to service had never crawled out of the primordial bog. Several of Arthur’s more exciting ties and waistcoats became victims of the fireplace, though Merlin would swear, all blue-eyed innocence, that Arthur had developed a terrible habit of burning the things himself while too tight to remember. He was a tyrant in the matter of cutlery. His hangover restorative tasted of rat-meat and gunpowder, and their effectiveness only increased Arthur’s irritation. He frequently quoted things, occasionally in Latin or French (barely tolerable) and twice in German (beyond the pale). He flung open curtains with all the cheer and verve of a music-hall dancer removing her blouse. The ears, tragically, remained.
He had also, in the year he’d spent in Arthur’s employ, facilitated two longed-for engagements, broken off three loathed ones, successfully repressed a rather cack-handed attempt at blackmailing Gwaine, and fished Leon, quite literally, out of the Thames. There didn’t seem to be a job title that encompassed all that, so Arthur supposed that valet would have to do."

It got a little more intense as the world went on, got wind of his ghost on the streets, and became scared of The Bat . So Bruce got a little more creative with it, Alfred and him had a good laugh over the name, the scare, and Alfred had a vicious streak of humor that he had passed onto his ward-
So now the suit had a visible bat-theme, an insignia to drape in the shadows and to paint across the streets of Gotham.
It only took a year into the whole charade of heroism for Bruce to overhear a conversation between some goons- some low level thug hired by the Riddler this week- about nothing at all pertaining to what the hell the Riddler was doing in the sewers but instead:
“ The Batman can fly, you know, I’ve seen his wings.”

Genuinely the coolest thing I've ever seen anybody do with a wingfic, the family feels are strong here and I love how the wings have tangable effects on the story, like saving Jason's life because the joker thought breaking his wings would hurt him, despite the bad things that do happen it feels especially kind towards the characters, and its fun to have those little moments of sibling hijinks in between big important things happening too

good fic to read and reread, it's def not a pairing i've thought about before, but i really do like it, between harry potter learning how to cope with his loss and deal with new an unfamiliar magics and mycroft getting a new chew toy, they're such a dysfunctional couple of weirdos, i love that for them
harry-centric, given a lot of heart, harry gets dropped in the middle of bbc london and just has to figure shit out when the only things strong enough to come with him are the deathly hallows, and i'm glad that the story focuses on how being a psychic is more about answering questions and bringing closure and just dealing with people that are grieving in so many ways, and with the whole mess and the kind of life harry had, yeah i guess that would make him interesting to mycroft, like harry has all this power and he just, just uses it to try and help people say goodbye to their grandma for 20 quid, that's like completely incomprehensible to mycroft, if he had that kind of power at his disposal things would have gone very differently, and that's what he likes about harry, that harry, despite everything, appearances included, is an honest man, and that's so fucking novel, the whole magical dimension traveler is just kinda icing on the cake
the story really is wonderful at touching on grief, like harry's grief at giving up and having failed and losing everything he's ever known, and losing his humanity a bit there, and just grief at people losing loved ones, no matter what their relationship is like there's still this uncertainty and loss, the stress that mycroft goes through because he's secretly terrified of making all this grief real for himself, and john working through losing the focus of his life, and molly losing a friend, and lestrade a confidant, and it's just magical to see how it touches everyone in these small ways, and harry can't fix it, but he can take a message, and thats, like the women and girls in the crate chapter was gut wrenching, just, so good

Well goddamn. I love this, I really do. Its a retelling focusing on the heart of the story and abuse, and its the funniest goddamn thing ive read in ages. The characters are all delightful, the stakes are real, the consequences are tangible. Its really a sweet love story but in that- I'm choosing to spend my life with this person because I enjoy their company and admire and respect them and will continue to work towards a healthy relationship going forward - kind of way that feels more natural and far less shallow and performative, which is amazing especially since they know each other for a night before deciding on this, but it feels completely natural about it. And the sparrows pecking out the stepmother's eyes stayed in! But her confrontation with the stepmother was achingly plain, like they were both people, and in a very real sense she was what Cindy could have been if she hadnt been so determined to be kind, if she had been just a luttle more bitter. Just a brilliant read told in such a delightfully unconventional way!

Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail is all about healing and family, about finding yourself and how love conquers all, and how it's ok to make mistakes and how healing isn't linear, and it's about making friends and small kindnesses and how the most important relationship in your life can be your best friend
i've cried and laughed and fucking yearned, it's just so goddamn heartfelt and sweet, bucky's relationship with the olds especially did me in, just love for the sake of love, kindness because it's kind, just this, you protect
i mean bucky starts out at literally fucking rock bottom, no idea where or who he is, no control over his brain his life his actions, and it ends with steve and bucky getting together and being deliriously happy after years of healing surrounded by the family they chose to build and fuck, it just makes me happy for them, like yeah, it really is all worth it

Ok ok so besides the fact that its a great read and well written porn, it's also just fucking fun, everybody's got such a loud personality and they're all bouncing off each other like fucking beyblades, everyone is shameless and raunchy and still people with lives and insecurities and relationships and hobbies and shit, its just really fun to read and I love all the openness the characters have with each other, like everybody gossiping about izuku's sugar daddy and katsuki fucking decking anybody that talks shit at him and tetsu and co. shamelessly moving around kirishima during a morning after, like they get to be fucking weird and gross and physical with each other, its great!

good fucking lord, ok so i usually avoid the hell out of stories that parallel real world events because i can barely deal with the real world events, but jfc it actually made me feel better to read? like the bad guy got caught, the broken system got dismantled, the fraying relationships got patched up, everybody who was dying got better, just the tragedy meant something. the world changed for the better because peter didn't lay down and give up, and other people stood up with him even if they were tired and broken and hopeless, and that's what it's about in the end, it's about hope, because things can and should be better, and this is the version of things where they do get better, and i love that
also the writing is fucking on point the plot is engaging and interesting, the characters are well written and have believable relationships, the villains are terrifying, the world is masterfully crafted and really runs with the idea of quirks in the marvel universe rather than mutations, and the tension is just *chef's kiss*, i cried i worried i laughed i forgot what time it was and emerged four hours later at 1am absolutely wrecked, just genuinely a joy to read and i want to learn book binding just so i can hold a physical copy of this story and emote all over it <3 -

Bucky tried to shake the sparkles off the grenade he had been planning on lobbing over the divider. “It sounded like Latin to me,” he said reasonably, pursing his lips and frowning at the explosive. It dripped a sparkle, and a puff of purple smoke curled up where it hit the concrete.
“That’s because you spent Sunday school flirting with Sarah Cunningham,” Steve accused, bobbing back up to throw his shield and ducking back down to dodge a shining ball of blue light. “You wouldn’t know Latin if it came up and kissed you on your ugly mug.”
“I’d sure know it if Sarah Cunningham did, though.” Bucky grinned, struck by the memory. “That gal really knew what she was doing.”

Summary
It's the first winter after Pitch's defeat. Jack is happy, he's not alone anymore, and his memories are gradually returning. But when a treasure hunt gone wrong puts Jack and Jamie in danger, flinging them through time and space, they find themselves on an island neither of them have heard of before. Jack's first priority is to get Jamie home safe, but Berk's inhabitants - human and otherwise - are certainly not making it easy.
Knowing they will leave Berk and the Vikings behind as soon as they know how to, Jack is not going to risk the pain of growing close to any of these people (or dragons, for that matter). But Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, wearing his heart on his sleeve, doesn't seem to want to take the hint.
