Summary
I still don’t really talk about Contact Thrum. But I want you to hear this from me, in my words, not from some crib sheet written by a security guard.
Maybe it’s hard to say out loud, but I can write it down. I reckon I owe you that.
Grace landed on Erid terrified of being treated as a specimen for experimentation – as a thing - and the Eridians worked tirelessly to ensure his safety and demonstrate it, too. Now, almost two years on, that dazed and outgrown paranoia is proven right.

The music was playing again. Lifting my head was like lifting the whole sky. Eventually I managed to look around to try to find whatever alarm clock the sound was coming from.
There was a large glass hamster ball next to my bed. Inside was a stack of rocks. Weird. What the heck was that? Then it moved and I about pissed myself. It was like a mini spider rock golem and it was singing at me.
“Aaaaaahhhfffriggedawygedawaygetaway get aawy ged away!” I tried to escape the monster but my limbs wouldn’t function so I only succeeded in rolling off the bed. “Oooowwwww,” I wheezed into the ground.

During the journey to Erid, Grace goes back into a coma to survive the trip. Unbeknownst to him, his assigned coma drug cocktail still includes the amnesia drug.

Summary
Sharing really sucks, but deep down, Grace knows he’s not the priority. And he shouldn’t be, either. Adrian was there first, waited for Rocky longer than Grace even knew him for. They’re his mate. A mate is always more important than a friend, and that’s fine.
It doesn’t make Grace feel better. He gives up on his physical therapy, deciding instead to crawl back into bed. His muscles hurt anyways. The heart is a muscle too, he supposes.
He feels worse with each second, and he allows himself to sob over a pain he’s not sure he understands.
On Erid, there's no greater honour than to be song-bearer.

Everything has its limits. These days I am constantly reminded of it--terminal velocity, terminal temperature, terminal illness--no matter what you change, it will only ever inch towards a predetermined value. I feel like I have crammed so much stress and angst into my brain over the past ten-thousand life threatening emergencies that it has groaned and whined like a rust-bucket trash compactor towards a point of stress that could literally break my sanity once and for all.I don’t know if my stress ever got this bad on Earth. Probably not; It seems to be the negative side effect of evading certain death, what I get for abusing the monkey’s paw. One more chance at life for another helping of crippling anxiety. Now that I’m three miraculous-survivals deep and somehow traveling to an alien planet, you can guess how well I’ve been sleeping.
Hint: Not great.

“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.
