Arthur shifts his aim. Hovers on Colm’s haggard face, slightly out of focus due to the sheer distance. And Colm - somehow - glances up to his right. Directly at the glint of the rifle scope.
For a split second, Arthur looks him in the eye.
He flinches back. Footsteps clatter behind him, skidding on the rock. He turns, and the butt of a rifle smashes into his head.Set during and after 'Blessed Are The Peacemakers' in Chapter 3, a bid to parley with the O'Driscolls goes disastrously wrong. Charles takes it upon himself to find Arthur and bring him home before he succumbs to days of torture and imprisonment.

“We should...get out on a real trip soon,” Arthur says, low in his voice, still unsure, hesitant, resting his forehead against Charles’ when he straightens back up. Charles’ eyelashes flicker, thick black like the perfectly painted eyes of ancient Egyptian frescoes, lined with kohl, and such a rich liquid brown beneath, like drops of coffee. “Go wanderin’ for a few days, y’know?”
Set somewhere in Chapter 3, Arthur and Charles go on a hunting trip, and Arthur thinks on his developing relationship with Charles while getting summarily roasted by his family back at camp.

Summary
Charles sits down next to him, his shoulder gently bumping into Arthur’s. He appreciates the contact, touch like this being a rare occurrence, even though it sends a jolt of pain through his aching body, even if Charles probably shouldn’t be this close to him.
He should tell him. Tell him that he's sick, tell him to keep his distance so he doesn't catch it - but can't bring himself to. He will, eventually, but not here, where other people could be listening, not now, when he's just barely caught his breath.
As selfish as it might be, Arthur simply wants to stay close to Charles for a little while longer.
___Arthur’s sick. Lovesick, too, as he and Charles share a quiet moment in Beaver Hollow.

When Arthur had finally dragged himself back to camp, it had been a miracle that nobody had expected to occur. John had been sitting by the campfire, smoking with Charles and Sean, when he heard shouts from the edge of camp. It didn’t take him long to rush over to find Arthur on the ground, saying something to Dutch about a trap. Naturally, Dutch talked over him.
“That all doesn’t matter, son. You’re safe now, Mister Morgan, you’re safe.”

Arthur had been riding with Dutch and Hosea for near on four months now, and sure, he liked 'em well enough. But he just couldn't work them out.
He’d thought at first that they were brothers, before he’d overheard enough conversations to disprove that theory. He didn’t have any real basis for how brothers acted with each other, of course, but… They were just… just real comfortable with each other.
More comfortable than Arthur could imagine being with anyone who wasn’t family.
Not that he had a whole lot of experience on that count either…
Or, Arthur is more oblivious than Dutch and Hosea gave him credit for, but he gets there eventually.

The low hum, the crinkle of paper, the earthy scent of herbs betraying the fact it was none other than Hosea who had decided to grace him with his presence. He listened as the man shuffled about, the chair-a permanent fixture as of late-drawn closer to his bedside.
It was routine, almost. The cloth, dried and stiff, was pulled from his forehead, only to be replaced by his hand. Fingers resting against fevered skin, pausing a moment before a muted sigh came out. Arthur knew he was still warm, could rightly feel the burn of fever-though far less than the raging inferno those first few nights.
