"You say you’re ready to be a hero, wholly committed to that cause of pandering foolishness,” All for One queried thoughtfully, voice soft, almost kind. “But are you really so willing to commit to emptiness and service to the ungrateful?”The man leaned closer to the boy. "Do you truly desire to align so wholly to your cause?"
There was an amused snort as Izuku gasped for air, struggling, and clawing, blistering pain searing his senses.
All for One only ‘tutted’ at the reply.
"My dear boy,” He hummed, almost amused, “It is just bone for bone. Tear for tear. You must ask yourself this: Will you always stand so proud? Will you always play the sacrificial lamb so willingly?"
There was another jolt as more electric shock waves coursed through him, making it difficult to see, to think. Izuku buckled under the strain, slipping to his knees, with All for One's laugh lilting overhead.
Blood trickled from his mouth as he bit back a whine.
All for One only grinned.
"Or will you finally succumb and fall just as you ought?"

The storm was picking up.
He needed to go faster to get back around.
And really…really just as he was afraid that the others treated him the way they did because of who he was now, the other part of Izuku didn’t want anyone to treat him like he mattered out of obligation either, especially if they knew the truth.
Obligation or pity maybe.
He didn’t think he could stand it if someone treated him kindly out of pity.
But Izuku did wonder…
He wondered what it would be like if he still didn’t have a quirk, if he hadn’t gotten into UA, if he hadn’t gotten into the hero course…
If all his hero dreams hadn’t come true the way he’d wanted, what would have happened? How would anyone have treated him?
Would anything change? Would he still be treated the same way he is now, with friends and support and encouragement? Or would he be as miserable as he was in middle school?
Would he be a loner? Would he be unkind and unhappy?
Would he be a villain?
Would anyone care?

The boy swallowed and blinked, feeling the warmth in his chest grow, the confusion and frustration growing with it.
He didn’t know what to make of it anymore.
‘You’re not a worthy successor.’
‘You deserved better, kid.’
He didn’t know if he deserved better. He didn’t know if he was a worthy successor, a good enough would-be hero, a good enough wielder of One for All.
He didn’t know much of anything right now.
But…
Izuku only shook his head, a ghost of a smile on his lips as stepped forward and concentrated on centering the piece just right, ensuring that nothing would fall off.
He did know something.
"It wasn't about me," He remarked simply.
It wasn’t about him.
It was about them.
“You don’t…you don’t give a gift for yourself. You give it for…others to enjoy.”**

The girl blinked up at Deku, whose brows were knit in concern, green eyes shining as he set his water bottle aside to watch her, turning to more fully face the girl. He’d just come back from running, she knew. He was always out and running.
He must be tired.
But here he was in the kitchen, watching her and asking her if she was okay. And it was really...really sort of weird. Eri didn’t really know how to feel about it. It made her sort of happy and sad at the same time because...
Deku was the first person to ever ask that.
And he was the first person she believed when they said they cared.
Yes, she knew that others asked if she was okay too. Aizawa and Yamada and Shinsou and Mirio were good askers. They cared. They smiled like Deku did. They hugged like he did too.
But Deku had always been the first.
The first one to smile.
The first one to hug her.
The first one to really save her.
He’d always cared first.
‘I won’t let you go ever again.’
And he hadn’t.
“Eri?”

Summary
Izuku is a vigilante, and frankly it's the only good thing in his life. Or at the very least, it's brought about all of the good things. He loves nothing more than patrolling under the stars with Eraserhead at his side and Tsukauchi a phone call away.So even though his civilian life might finally be amounting to something, now that he's getting into UA with a chance of becoming an actually-Licensed hero, he can't give his vigilantism up.
Equally, Aizawa isn't giving up on his Kidilante. The kid's been his for three years already, there's no way that those half-completed adoption papers in his desk drawer are going to go to waste. If only he had time to breathe beyond keeping his Kidilante safe, alongside his new class who are apparently villain magnets. It's going to be a long year.
(Written to fulfil every part of my pathetic little soul that just had to write ''angsty! but kind! little shit! Izuku who's an insomniac Quirkless vigilante that Aizawa is 100% going to adopt if only he could figure out his real identity but he refuses to force it out of him now because it took him years to earn that trust dammit and he'll wait longer if that's what it takes'' idea, but mine.)

Midoriya Izuku was a strange kid. Shouta would be the first to tell people, the kid was reckless and made it his mission to break every bone in his body with the same intensity as his love of heroes. He mumbled more than he seemed to actually talk and when he did, Midoriya seemed to always want to say more, but never did.
Overall, Shouta was fine with his strangeness, recklessness could be tamed provided good teaching and training. With Izuku, it would be easier than most. The kid was dedicated to a fault, he had a strong set of morals which made him first in most things that mattered; always the first to offer a hand, always the first to cheer on others, always the first to help.
But there was something else that Shouta couldn't shake; something in the way Midoriya scanned a room before entering, the way his eyes seemed to dissect a stranger seconds after meeting them, and something about the way he always seemed seconds away from asking for help.Series
