Summary
A kinkmeme fill that spawned into a massive show-style re-write of the second half of Season 4. The fics largely correspond to specific episodes. Each story has a theme attached to it - because you can't build a kingdom on Strength, Magic, and Courage alone.
Arthur had never looked forward to becoming king, but the crown has never felt so heavy as the moment he realized everyone he loved was lying to him. If he wants answers, he's going to have to find them, himself.

Summary
Arthur sinks into the bathwater, closing his eyes. He can feel Merlin scrubbing the parts of him that he can’t reach, and suddenly it feels meaningless and cheap. He doesn’t want Merlin scrubbing him if Merlin doesn’t mean it. And so he wrestles the soap and washing cloth away from the servant and declares that he’ll do it himself.
And he does. It’s not as nice or as pleasant as having Merlin do it, but he gets the job done. He even manages to wash and rinse his hair, even as his servant stands back with a look of bewilderment on his face.
When Arthur stands up, Merlin steps forward with a towel, but Arthur snatches it out of his grasp. “I can do it. I’m not completely useless, you know.”
Merlin looks more confused than ever. “But I thought that was your calling card. You know, useful in the saddle, useless everywhere else.”
Or: Arthur walks in on Merlin with a girl. But he's not jealous. Definitely not.

Summary
The folklore tales are wrong about oracles. Entranced by power, they miss the details.
Oracles do not predict the future for the future is not a stagnant thing to claim. What oracles truly do is far sinister. Arthur learns of this when he is cursed to transform into a beast on four legs. He cannot lift this curse without choosing between his manservant and the king of Camelot. Bring magic back to Camelot, or kill his father in the darkest moment of the curse.
The stories are right about one thing though. There cannot be peace without bloodshed.

Summary
“I thought I‘d never see you again,” Arthur admits in a rush.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” Merlin scoffs, turning away with an affectionate smile. Insubordinate, like Arthur remembers. “You don’t seriously think I’d ever truly leave you.”
“Yes, that is exactly what I thought,” Arthur thinks, almost hysterical. He spent twenty-nine summers without Merlin by his side—he doesn’t know what else he was supposed to believe.

"For a moment, he thinks that Arthur is going to pass off the last few months’ behaviour in an act of sarcastic bravado— but then Arthur closes his mouth and shakes his head wearily, suddenly looking exhausted. The shadows of the cupboard make the dark circles under his poignantly blue eyes more pronounced than ever, and he looks pale and drawn and serious, older than Merlin had ever seen him."
short, sweet, and lovely!

Summary
Arthur can’t help but think that while he’s willing to die for the thousands of people who will one day be under his rule, he would sacrifice literally everything for Merlin. Camelot. His riches. Even the hot baths he luxuriously soaks in night after night. He would give it all up to see Merlin smile.
It’s too bad the other boy will never know this.
Or: Arthur decides to teach Merlin how to fight. This does not go well.
