Filk for Dragon Age II - again, have not played the game(s) but I've read a lot of really good fic recently and I got smacked upside the head by the muse while listening to Annapantsu's cover of Hellfire as I cooked dinner, lol.
As someone who grew up with organized religion and learned later how deeply fallible humans tend to warp it, I appreciate the general discourse about how corrupt the Chantry is in general in Dragon Age, and I already loved Hellfire bc it's so singable and creepy.

As cliche' as it sounds, I woke up one morning with an image in my head: Alistair standing behind a bar, flirting shamelessly with a handsome, blonde, curly-haired detective. (Guess who?) Since the image couldn't be captured properly with the stick-figures that I am so adept at drawing, I decided to put pen to paper and run with this idea.

Not long after fleeing Kirkwall together, Anders and Hawke are separated. Anders is captured and made Tranquil, and is afterward handed over to Hawke by a sympathetic Cullen, who assumes she will kill him. Years later, when Hawke shows up to help the Inquisition with Anders still in tow, claiming that his continued presence is a penance for them both, Cullen finds himself in a better position to understand her. Which might be why he agrees to let Cassandra and the Inquisitor use Anders as a test subject when they discover a way to reverse the rite and restore the mind and magic of the man who sparked the rebellion.
