"Really Cosmo, I'm surprised you haven't needed rest sooner, what with all those falls."
Kathy was great, an angel, a darling, caring for him while he convalesced on Don's couch. Her hands fluttered around him before coming to rest on his shoulder where his muscles had turned to stone after one too many pratfalls.
Don himself was chuckling and Cosmo couldn't even turn his head to give him the stink eye, but his mouth still worked. "Yuck it up Mr. Always Dignity, some of us lower lifeforms have to resort to physical comedy for our daily bread."
"Come on, Cos. Look at this way. You've been wanting a vacation!" Don Lockwood has the audacity to flourish his hands and bow closer as he says it.
Cosmo Brown opens his mouth with a rebuttal which is immediately forgotten as Kathy's thumb, which had been rubbing light circles into the skin under his collar, presses just ever so slightly down and holds it. A choked note falls out of his mouth, but she keeps it there for a few more seconds and then releases. Kathy continues rubbing at his shoulders and coaxing blood and feeling back into them all the while ignoring how Cosmo is reddening under her hands.
This isn't right? She's a married woman, married to his best friend who's standing right there. Sure there was the dancing, and the kisses, and the drinks and lingering touches, but that was Hollywood. All the times they had been a little less than proper was just the way of things, but it couldn't mean anything. It would be greedy to want and get them both. Cosmo is suffering through several realizations while Monumental's latest star works her magic hands along the line of his shoulder. Kathy doesn't seem to care and Don is still having a ball at his expense.
He flops a leg down to try to move and something tightens in his back. A squeak and a scold from Kathy has Don now positioned at the other end of the couch with Cosmo's feet in his lap.
"To prevent any more escape attempts." Kathy says, looking down at him with those big doe eyes.
Don rubs a hand on his shin, award winning smile softening into something familiar and private. "Let us take care of you, you stubborn mule."
Cosmo reels at the juxtaposition of both of them touching him while bantering with him like its one of their lunch breaks.
