She could say the words. Speak them here in the night-time, in the stillness. But somehow not enough. They would fade, vanish from the world, the knowledge imparted lost. If she could not say them- Padding across the floor, Aeris opened one of her exercise books. What to say? Not enough to simply say it. There needed to be more.
She wrote quickly. 'Sector Five. Hyper Stop. Girl. End of aisle 2. Black hair, black jacket, black skirt. Someone close to her has returned to the Planet.'
Aeris knows - somehow - when certain people return to the Planet. Shinra are deeply interested in the limits of the ability; the denizens of Sector Five think she's weird.

Summary
Fire had fascinated Aeris Gainsborough all her life; it was part of her, part of who she was and how she lived. Her obsession and maybe also a curse. Her earliest memories of it were uncomfortable reminders of her captivity and the ever present menace of Hojo.
Each Cetra has a specific type of magic unique to them; Aeris's is fire.

Summary
Pain seemed to be all Cloud knew from the moment he threw Sephiroth into the mako pool. If only he could have stayed awake in the aftermath. If only Hojo had not captured him. If only- Cloud clenched his teeth as his head bent back on the operating table and he grunted with pain. Press for Emergency Ventilation. The sign was upside down and familiar, but it was all he had in these moments, his sole distraction. Press for Emergency Ventilation. His arms strained against the restraints as Hojo cut deeper, or pulled or- The sensations were not delineated; it was simply pain.
Cloud dies at Hojo's hands after his capture at Nibelheim. Then he was left with the question: now what?

Summary
Despite the lack of concrete evidence the rumors persisted. There were other photos - not easy to fake without a decent artist with an airbrush and a good deal of time. Hard to bid the rumors more than a brief moment of concern all the same. Some of the theories were absurd; everyone knew there were no female SOLDIERs. There had to be some good reason though no one was able or willing to provide a clear answer to the question. Too many questions about the process of training the SOLDIERs met with stone-walling - and alarming visits from people in dark suits and bad reputations.
All SOLDIERs were men; that was just the way it was. Except for the occasional rumour about a sole female SOLDIER, someone known as the White Witch. Tifa Lockhart's life changed the day she arrived in Nibelheim.

An odd craft was on one of the landing platforms. Aeris tried to make sense of the vehicle as dock-workers began unloading. Another glimpse of the curiosity as she took the elevator up to her assigned accommodation where she dropped her bag on her bed and threw back her curtains. A vast expanse of sea stretched out beyond the bay, rendered near black in the darkness. Floating in the glare of floodlights was an airship.
The craft strained against the ropes tethering it to the landing platform. If she cut those lines, would the airship drift away like a leaf on the wind? What would it be like to fly in that craft? Different. It had to be different to the Gelnikas. Maybe not as fast, but freer, gentler; an open deck lay below the bulk of the craft. A perfect vantage point to see the world from as the airship flew above it. Freedom; it was right there in front of her.
Ifalna escaped Shinra but was unable to take her daughter with her. Years later, Aeris Gast now works as a lab technician for Hojo with no effective method of escape. While shipping samples to Junon she finds a new possibility; an airship.

The sights they see. The sounds they hear. The lives they live... are so complicated. And so simple. I can't wait for you to join them." Another rattle and the image whirled now pointed in the opposite direction. A women with long, brown hair and a red dress stared out of the screen. "Aeris; we can't both exist. I'm going to become half of you. And I need you to know that every moment you love being yourself; that's me loving you and loving being you. Because you're going to be something extraordinary. You're going to be a human being. Take care of them, Aeris." The woman smiled and the rattling came again as the view skewed and then vanished into static.
As they traveled the Planet, dancing brought them closer.

"I should have never brought it up." Tifa stalled just inside the doorway as Aeris yelled at Cloud. He looked startled, unsure of himself - and Aeris did not seem to care. "Sometimes you make me so mad." She scowled. Cloud took a step backwards, opening his mouth to speak. Aeris cut him off. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.” He dithered, his face white and fearful. Tifa stepped aside as Cloud hurried away; Aeris slumped back onto the bed, staring down at the blankets.
Tifa took a silent step forwards, her hand reaching out and paused, unsure of what to do. Licking her lips, she settled onto the edge of the bed. “Hey,” she said in a soft voice.
When Cloud says completely the wrong thing, Tifa is there for Aeris.

Before Yuffie can raise an eyebrow and comment, Tifa leans close to her, the smile dissolving into a grim expression.
"You found that ring in his house didn't you?"
"No," Yuffie says, her voice low, her eyes staring off in the direction Cloud left. "I didn't get it there."
"This," Tifa gestures. "Is his mother's ring, and you took it. Now you're going to put it back where you found it."
"Are you absolutely certain it's his mom's?" Yuffie does not appear guilty so much as worried now.
"Yes," Tifa says with some force. "No one else would dream of doing something that elaborate. Cloud might have convinced himself someone else made a similar ring, but that one is definitely his mother's. Now you need to go back to Nibelheim and put it back where you found it."
"But that's not where I got it."
"Then where did you find it?" Tifa says with a touch more aggression then she wanted.
"The North Crater," the ninja says in a quiet voice.
There is something familiar about the ring on Yuffie's finger.
