Nor does it feel like his skin is breaking on its own after being stretched too thin. Instead, the experience is akin to having his throat literally shredded, as if a million of tiny, jagged claws or teeth are digging into his flesh and pulling at it to brand him with the words.

The world tunneled—sirens, voices, the puff of dust off every bootfall—down to one point: Buck’s face up close, eyes too bright, lashes caked with grit. “Hey. Hey, look at me.”

He blinked slow, mouth parted, a smear of soot curving up his cheekbone. His lips were almost colorless under the dust.

Eddie’s palm found the back of Buck’s turnout, guided him sideways to the tailboard of the engine. “Sit down.”_____________

Jason had a tradition on the anniversary of his death. Isolate, stop taking his medication, get drunk, start a fight with Batman and generally be a danger to himself and others. This year, Jason was determined not to let that happen.
However, as the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.Jason intended to ask Bruce about his death. Bruce intended to answer his questions. However, having this conversation with Jason in crisis and Bruce providing alcohol ends about as well as the first time they attempted it.
What Jason did not intend to do was almost run over Harley Quinn during his escape attempt. Jason isn’t overly sure if he kidnapped Harley and took her home with him.
