Astarion narrows his eyes at Tav, waving one arm around to encompass the hot, humid jungle that the circus Djinni had teleported them into, the streaks of dirt on his once-pristine white shirt, and Tav himself. “How do you keep getting us into these situations?”
“I know exactly why I’m in here,” Tav tells him cheerfully, unrepentant. “But I don’t know why you got thrown in Djinni-jail.”
“Collateral damage, I suppose,” Astarion says vaguely, then seems to remember that he’s supposed to be cross with Tav and promptly frowns at him.
“Sorry,” Tav tells him apologetically. “Akabi’s face though, when we saw through his trick!” He starts laughing again.
“Ugh. I don’t know why I put up with you.”

Summary
Astarion isn't used to kindness without having to pay a price for it. Especially after having his mind infected with a parasite, and meeting others who also suffer from it, he wouldn't think there'd be any inch of hospitality. Then he meets HER; she who smiles and laughs even after seeing the face of death at her door. One would believe a wayward soul like hers would be easy to pray upon, and that is certainly what Astarion plans to do. Still...there's something about her.

Summary
“Four-hundred-pound monster, with tentacles strong enough to pierce steel,” Astarion reminded himself. Well, three-hundred pounds, maybe. This one looked like it had been starved for a while.
Damn it all.
Tav isn't a druid, so why the hells does Astarion feel like they're one adoption away from travelling with a petting zoo? In which Tav (definitely not Astarion, he would never) is maybe projecting a little too much onto the caged monster at the circus. Missing scene set early in Act 3 (stand alone fic).

Summary
Astarion sighed, the cool night breeze ruffling his curls as he strolled the streets of Baldur’s Gate. His usual haunts were dry, but the circus was oddly alive for the midnight hour. Maybe he couldn’t find a mark, but he could find out why he would be spending his day in the kennels, or at least help himself to some unsuspecting pockets. Bright bulbs of Dancing Lights lit the world in technicolor as small fireworks fizzled and popped merrily in the distance. Bards danced and sang and spat fire into the air to the delight of all, merchants peddled rare oddities and fake pelts of extinct creatures. Astarion listened for exciting gossip, but heard only of the new Duke (politics, boring) and of the Lich who roamed the countryside in his strange tower, eating the hearts of elves. Astarion heard it before, and always found it very strange that a Lich would desire elf hearts in particular, but perhaps it was simply a Lich of Profoundly Good Taste.
