Summary
Back in Keith’s earlier years, him getting into fights wasn’t a rare occurrence. Shiro has seen Keith endure bloody noses, split lips, black eyes, sprained ligaments and the occasional broken bone but a broken heart? It would hurt Keith more than any bodily damage he’s ever suffered.
It's why Shiro decides he and Lance haven't hung out in a while. He should fix that.

Summary

“What’s this for?” Keith asked instead. The question gave him time to study Shiro’s expression and body language to try and gauge how he was supposed to react.
“For your birthday,” Shiro answered simply.
Keith immediately tensed and thrusted the present back into Shiro’s hands. “You—You didn’t have to get me anything,” he said quickly, rushing to get his words in.
“Hey, no, I wanted to get you something,” Shiro pointed out. Shiro tried to hand the present back to him, but Keith had already clasped his hands behind his back. Keith kept his gaze on his shoes and refused to look up, waiting for the inevitable scolding that was to come.Or, Shiro is doing his best to get to know Keith, but unfortunately, Keith's walls won't come down as easily as Shiro had hoped.

When Keith looked back at Shiro, he was grinning. He stepped close and wrapped his arms around Keith’s waist, pressing small kisses to the side of his neck. Their entire living room was drastically different from when Keith left that morning.
The coffee table was gone, and so was the tufted rug Shiro made (drunk Shiro nearly always resulted in arts and crafts). A simple carpet replaced it, protecting the floors from the new machine on top. At first glance, it looked like some kind of torture device. But it wasn’t. It was very much the opposite of a torture device.
It was a fucking machine.

Shiro had committed more atrocities than he had been able to keep count of while he had been held captive, yet nothing compared to the expression he saw on Keith’s face. He had never felt guilt like that before.
“Now!” Shiro demanded. He was losing his head, it hurt too much. One accidental look at Keith’s vest, at the small blade he must have forgotten to hide, and the lines between reality and the past few years became blurred.
