Bucky wanted to assure Sam that, despite him not trusting the drone or being particularly fond of it, he was sorry that Sam was upset about the loss of his beloved Redwing. Deep down, Bucky didn’t like seeing Sam upset at all. Sam was a good man. He didn’t deserve all of the shit that was thrust in his direction. He deserved gentleness and safety. He deserved nice things.

Or the story of a 12 year old Tony escaping from months of torture in a cave to face his destiny as Iron Man, a little sickly 12 year old boy from Brooklyn gets taken in by the army to be experimented on and becomes a national icon having to guide his best friend - among other - through a war, a little girl turned a spy redeeming herself, a little boy with a penchant for arrows who got himself a spot in an international spy organization, a genius boy having a deadly experiment blow up in his face and surviving with devastating consequences, a prince of another realm trying to live up to expectations, another prince trying to live with the lack of expectations of him and a terrible truth. And many more stories of children faced with the burden of the safety of the world coming to rest on their shoulders despite their young age and somewhat coping - and then learning to cope as a family.

Now that they were friends, Sam had expected the uncomfortably intense staring to stop, or at least die down a little. It hadn’t. He’d be doing something completely mundane and suddenly feel Bucky’s eyes on him. Whenever he turned around, he’d see Bucky practically glaring at him.
After about the fifth time, he’d had enough. “What’s going on, man?”
“Nothing,” Bucky said, too casually.

~~Can something be both tragic and beautiful because this is that. I loved this!
My Favorite Part's~~After making sure Nat and Wanda are all set up across the hall, Sam comes back into the room he will be sharing with Steve and throws himself face down on the nearest bed, completely exhausted.
To say today’s mission was a crapshoot would be the understatement of the year.Sam sighs and buries his head deeper into the plush pillows. He can feel a tension headache building behind his eyes, and his legs and shoulders are incredibly sore.
“Is he okay?” Sam hears Redwing asks in a deep, calm mental voice that is as familiar as Sam's own. “The man has been perched here even longer than I have.”
Glancing up from where he is sprawled on the bed, Sam sees that Steve is standing at the window, his dust-covered uniform still on. Through the open window, Sam can also see Redwing on the little balcony outside; his sharp black eyes trained on Steve’s unmoving figure.“Hey, you with me, Steve?” Sam asks in a low voice, not wanting to startle him.
With some delay, Steve looks up at Sam and his usually limpid eyes are hazy and distant.
"Yeah, yeah. 'm fine...I was just—" he absently looks around the room as if he had completely forgotten where they are.
Sam brings his hands up and cups Steve's face to force him to meet his gaze. Steve goes meekly, resting the weight of his head against Sam's palms and blinking rapidly before his blue eyes finally fix on Sam's.“Why don’t you take your gear off, hmm?” Sam suggests. “And maybe have a nice long shower. I'm sure you'll feel much better after.”
“Yeah…yeah,” Steve whispers, nodding his head distractedly.
He doesn't protest when Sam guides him away from the window to the center of the room. Sam unclasps the shield that is still on Steve’s back, placing it carefully on the ground, before carrying on to remove the rest of the uniform.
Steve sways a little on his feet when Sam pulls at his shoulder straps to unclasp them, but otherwise, he makes no movements as Sam undresses him with careful, practised hands. He and Steve know each other's gear like their own and it had quickly become a ritual between them to always perform extra safety checks on each other before they head out. These precautions had sometimes meant the difference between a bullet making it through or Sam's pack malfunctioning during a high-stakes flight.“I couldn’t do this without you, Sam,” Steve says once he is left standing in nothing but his boxer briefs. “You know that right?” He takes Sam’s face in his hands and gives him an earnest, searching look. "I need you so much, Sam."
“I know Steve, I know," Sam says. "I couldn’t do this without you either. None of us could.”“Go take your shower. I promise you’ll feel much better after.”
Steve goes without further protest, but he leaves the door to the ensuite open, almost like he’s afraid of having Sam out of his sightline.“You should go to him,” Redwing says after a moment, bobbing his feathered head toward the bathroom. “He needs comfort from his mate.”
Sam is startled and cringes, mortified. The falcon’s keen eyes have evidently not missed the periodic glances Sam keeps throwing at Steve’s naked form, which is still perfectly visible from behind the fogged-up glass of the stall.
“Well, Steve's not my mate, not in that sense,” Sam thinks back. “And he’ll be fine, he just needs some rest. We all do.”Steve is still looking at him through the mirror, his gaze searching Sam's freshly shaved face. Sam has to make an effort not to flinch under the scrutiny of those blue eyes as the playfulness drains out of them, replaced by some intense emotion that Sam can't really decipher.
“Sam—” Steve whispers, wrapping his arms around Sam’s middle and burying his face into Sam's throat as if to breathe in his scent.
Sam stays very still, not wanting to spook Steve off and ruin the moment. It’s not often that Steve allows himself to be like this—open, vulnerable, seeking comfort from someone else.Steve intertwines their fingers and buries his face back into the crook of Sam’s neck. “I can’t lose you,” he repeats over and over again, his voice muffled.
“You won’t” Sam replies each time.
Steve lifts up his head and starts slowly mouthing at Sam’s neck, trailing wet kisses along Sam's face until he reaches the corner of his mouth.Hopefully, Sam's friendship with Steve would survive this blurring of the lines, and maybe it would even turn into something more. Hopefully, hopefully...

Ever since Bucky'd gone back to Brooklyn, Sam had found himself missing the broody man, but maybe bucky had his own revelation- in the completely opposite direction. It made sense, in a way, and Sam wouldn't blame him. Long-distance was hard, and Bucky was still trying to adjust but still. At least he could just say "Hey Sam, I'm sorry but this just ain't gonna work. Love you as a bro though, see you at work." or something.
