Not even Gwaine, who runs headlessly into battle on the rugby field, or Elyan, who determinedly stares down whoever crosses his path, can reach the pure, unadulterated courage of Merlin: Merlin with the crazy mop of hair and the very blue eyes and the quiet, but commanding voice, who wears low-slung jeans and statement t-shirts that have earned him a visit to the principal’s office more than once and who sports shiners so regularly, you might think it was an intrinsic part of his personal style.

Summary
Merlin smiles, mirthless and grim as he bares his throat. “Come on, then,” he says, voice dripping with a taunt. “Are you not going to kill me, my Lord?”
The bile is back. With it, nausea roils in Arthur’s gut. The silver blade glints in the dim evening light, orange and pink and shadows dripping off of it; a stark contrast against the virgin white of Merlin’s throat.
They have never been good at talking, exactly, but if anyone had asked Arthur how he thought this would go, the answer would not have been magic, a dagger, and the release of year-old tension.

“No, god no. My dad and I don’t really like each other, never been that close. He’s always liked my sister more and to be honest, I get it. She’s this headstrong, intelligent, compassionate woman who is the spitting image of her mother while I’m the one that killed my mother and reminds him every day of her because I look like her.” Merlin makes a noise in the back of his throat and Arthur suddenly realises that he’s made himself sound like a psycho killer who offed his own mother, “She died in childbirth by the way, I didn’t murder her in her sleep or something.” Merlin makes another noise like he’s trying to stifle a laugh at that."
