Summary
Eddie glances between Steve and his mountain of blankets. One of the alpha’s hoodies in mixed in there, the fading, soft one that Steve was constantly borrowing.
Brushing a hand across the blankets, Steve adjusts them again, fixing them where Eddie had moved them.
Realization dawns on Eddie’s face. “Sweetheart, you’re nesting.”
“Huh?”
“You’re in pre-heat.”
“No, I’m…I’m sick.” Steve’s eyebrows furrow, and he fists a hand in Eddie’s hoody squished up against his thigh.

It's Steve's first time in pre-heat, and he's miserable.
Luckily, Eddie's there to take care of him.

“But we’re gonna come and visit you anyway, big guy,” Eddie adds.
“Sure. Just, ah…don’t expect much in the way of entertainment,” Steve grumbles.
“You can just sit there and look pretty, how’s that? Won’t be hard for you,” Eddie replies, smooth.
Steve’s cheeks heat up again.

A traumatic brain injury leads to a downward spiral for Steve. He's dropped from the Blackhawks, his recovery is slow and rocky, and he's got no idea what to do with his life.
Enter his old friends, Eddie and Dustin, who spend their time poking around decrepit haunted locations filming for their YouTube channel. Steve doesn't really believe in all this ghost stuff, but he's got nothing better to do than join them.
Besides, he might just be ever-so-slightly head-over-heels for Eddie Munson.

Summary
Eddie steps forward. Wants to grab, to hold, to tuck Steve under his arm and pull him close.
But Steve’s just as shirtless as he is shoeless. In fact, all he’s wearing are some sweatpants, and Eddie’s shivering even in his hoody and Steve really shouldn’t be out in the woods like this. All the same, Eddie can’t just go…touching. As much as he’d like to soothe his hands over soft, mole-spattered skin, he can’t.
It’d be dangerous.
For their friendship, and for Eddie’s stupid aching heart.

Summary
The song washes over him, and Steve blinks back tears.
He drives back through quiet streets, sees ghosts everywhere he looks.
Robin waving from the doorway of Family Video. Dustin flipping the bird outside the school gates. Nancy smiling shyly under the Hawk sign. The party piling out of his old beemer into Palace Arcade, Steve’s yelled warning at them to be back out at nine pm sharp if they wanted a ride home echoing through near-empty streets.
He turns away. Focuses on the road ahead, the road to home, to Forest Hills.

Some nights, Steve can't fight the urge to drive laps of Hawkins and make sure there's no Upside Down stirrings, has to check. Some nights, he misses his old friends like crazy.

Summary
In 1998, 72.5 million passengers passed through Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
One of them was Steve Harrington. In fact, a lot of them were Steve Harrington. Every Friday, just like clockwork, he strides off flight 303 from JFK to ORD, in his suit and tie, phone plastered to his ear.
Somewhere else in Chicago, Eddie Munson's life is pretty good. He lives with his best friend. He works nights at a bar he loves. No, it's not what he'd imagined his life was gonna be like at thirty-two, because Steve isn't here, and there was a time he couldn't ever imagine living his life without him.
But he has, and it's fine, everything's fine. Honest.
He's accepted it. Fortunately, the universe, and Gareth, have not.
After a chance sighting in that busy airport, Eddie has the chance to try and reconnect with Steve after nearly a decade apart.

Summary
So Steve didn't complain once. He said nothing about the awful canned food or the bad coffee, about Dr. Buckley's singing in the showers or the smell of Sinclair and Munson when they come up from the engine room. He didn't tell the captain how unfair it was to bunk him with Mike Wheeler and Will Byers, two literal boys who were sharing his cabin, and when finally Steve couldn't take anymore of their giggling and whispering to each other all night long like fucking teenagers oh my fucking Stars — he just took a deep breath.
All day long, Steve was practicing breathing exercises, and repeating calming mantras to himself, in hope that his efforts were gonna be at least appreciated.
And yet, nobody was fucking nice to him.

Steve Harrington tries to embrace his new job as a navigator on the ST Kite, a scout-class spaceship. But just before he arrived, a tragedy struck the crew, leaving them in mourning. The chief engineer, Eddie Munson, is especially hard to work with, and is often very loud about how Steve doesn't have what it takes to be a real spacer. The fact that the guy is also hot doesn't help Steve's situation at all.

“That’s rule number one, Ed,” Steve nods and stares at the screen, focused and distant— the kind of stare that tells Eddie he’s not talking about just the game. “Always assume the game you’re planning can be won. If you go into it thinking that losing is a possibility, then you’re gonna lose. Even if you’ve gotta rewrite the rules of the game yourself, you gotta convince yourself you can win.”
The commentator seems to respond to Steve directly. “And that’s three strikes for Tommy Hagan for the fourth at-bat in a row. If this Dodgers team has a prayer of making the playoffs, it rests solely on Steve Harrington making it back in time.”
Eddie feels Steve squeeze his hand tighter.
Or, Professional Baseball Shortstop Steve Harrington injures his UCL and returns home to Indiana for treatment. Cue massage therapist Eddie Munson whose tender, practiced touch heals much more than Steve's elbow.
