"Something like that," said Leorio, and cupped his cheek. The calluses on on his fingers were gathered at the tips, as if from the manipulation of fine instruments, rather than at the palm, where a weapon would wear. Kurapika allowed this for just a few seconds. Then he snapped his jaw around, and bit him.

Leorio doesn't take the hunter exam, and joins up with the Phantom Troupe instead. Sure, sometimes he has to do unsavory things, like torture innocent prisoners who were only seeking justice for their murdered kin.
But on the bright side, the pay is better.

The demon Birhartura is summoned by some idiot mortal wizard. This would usually be very inconvenient - but this time, the terrified, broken-legged little peasant girl they have left as a sacrifice for it is also, somehow, one of the most powerful mages it has ever been in the presence of.
If only it could get her to believe that, and free them both.

Nodding in satisfaction, he turned around to meet the eyes of two other prisoners that had been thrown into his cell.
He froze.
Right.
There were now aliens in his cell.
And he probably just scared the hell out of them.

One day, she finds a very confused and unusual vampire hiding from the sun in the back of her tool shed and, somewhat uncharacteristically, decides to let him remain there until the sun sets. He returns, saves Dawn from a bad bite, and in the process reveals exactly how injured and weak he is. Buffy wavers between putting him out of his misery and nursing him back to health. It may turn out that she is very glad her kinder instincts were at work that night...
