In a weird way, he feels as though he’s conned Aventurine, because if Aventurine knew the truth - that Veritas is horribly and unceasingly attracted to him - he would never have approached him with this proposition.
But he doesn’t know, and now Veritas has to pretend that he’s ever had a romantic relationship before. He would say that it can’t be that hard - billions of people have had successful romantic relationships without prior research or experience - but Veritas is keenly aware that he is not like even billions of other people.
Aventurine approaches Veritas with a teensy, tiny proposition - that they pretend to be a couple for the sake of Aventurine's reputation on his newest Harmony-worshipping planetary aquisiton.

Humans were never supposed to travel the vast greatness of space. The biology and psychology of a human just wasn’t built for it. This was a lesson the Drean learned quickly. Even with their experiments to try and make human life spans last longer it never worked until they tried combining other DNA to the mix. Phamton, Dreans, Spidarons, even Pigmen and Endirians were all rejected by humans, causing their body to reject the blood, leading them to a long, painful death, or just simply killing them instantly with a short scream and sleep. With many experiments and scanning, they finally found a race whose DNA was similar enough to a human’s that it didn’t die immediately
The Elytrian
Tommy was tired. After leaving (it was an escape, where no one but him survived) the ship he was first abducted from, and finding a new crew, he never stopped having nightmares. His time on the other ship wasn’t that bad, not enough to elicit this response to his dumb brain anyway, no matter what Tubbo says. He was fine, just tired and if that excuse was enough for an annoying ass Wilbur to get off his back, then that’s what he’s sticking to.
Or Tommy has to deal with the lasting results of some not so failed experiments.

Summary
Uncle Phil stands in front of Tommy with an awkward smile plastered to his face. His hair is longer than Tommy remembers, pulled back in a short ponytail. There is several days worth of stubble covering his chin, and his eyes look tired. Not the sort of tired that someone acquires from days without sleep, but a deeper tiredness. A weariness of the soul.
Phil is wearing green scrubs as if he'd come to pick up Tommy directly after work. He drops Tommy's luggage down at his side before taking a good look at the boy.
Phil looks Tommy up and down like adults often do when they haven't seen a kid for years. His uncle recycles the same cheesy line everyone uses, “Wow, you've gotten so big, Toms. You're almost as tall as me.”
The old nickname sounds strange coming out of his uncle's mouth. The name belongs to a different time, a different decade. Using it now just feels… contrived.
OR
Tommy is sent to live with his relatives over summer break while his mom goes through rehab.
