Tommy doesn’t reply straight-away, because Tommy isn’t sure if he was capable of trusting people anymore, but he was sure of his own loyalty. He was sure in the way he gripped Tubbo’s hands and he thinks about the boy he sacrificed everything for — his discs, his family, his life.
And loyalty wasn’t trust, not really, but Tommy fights for Tubbo the same way he knows Tubbo fights for him, and he thinks it’s close enough.
“I always did,” Tommy says, and it comes out more genuine than he realised.

“It’s time to fly the nest, baby bird,” Grian cut him off, a fake seriousness to his voice that soon evaporated as the easy grin returned. “You’re gonna do great.”

Across the table, Tubbo is hiding a shit-eating grin behind the laminated menu and Ranboo kicks him gently just because he can, catching him on the shins. He learns to regret it almost immediately because Tubbo swears loudly, doubling over with a dramatic grimace and Ranboo is left flushed with embarrassment and grinning apologetically at the two nuns who have turned to stare at them.
"Okay, okay, what is actually wrong with you? Like—seriously, which screw specifically is loose in your head? I tapped you, dude," Ranboo hisses turning back to see Tubbo shaking with silent laughter. "It was a tap. With my foot. I didn't... I didn't shoot you."

When college decisions come out in March, Tubbo gets into his Dream college, all the way across the country. Tommy applies to six colleges, and he gets into none.
He doesn't know how to tell his family. Techno, pursing a double degree at Harvard. Wilbur, going to film school with more passion in his pinkie finger than Tommy has in his entire body. Phil, his dad, who works his ass off for Tommy to be able to even be able to apply to college. And for better or worse, Tommy doesn't see himself alive in five years.
Everything feels impossible.
