Alhaitham doesn’t say anything. Is there a delicate way to say so do you still have feelings for me? without sounding self-absorbed?
“Is that all?” Kaveh murmurs. “I’ll get lunch for you, then.”
“Wait.”
Kaveh, half turned, raises an eyebrow at him. “Hm?”
“I—” Alhaitham swallows the word down. “When?”
“What?”
“When. When did you… stop?”
“Stop?”
“Having feelings.”

“Still,” Kaveh insists. He gets closer so he can wrap a hand around Alhaitham’s wrist, drag his fingertips along the inside of it. “Is there any way I can make it up to you?”
Alhaitham stares at him for a moment, and then he snorts. Kaveh tries not to feel too offended at being rebuffed. “Make dinner,” he says flatly, but his lip curls up into a half-smile. “I want chicken prata.”
“Yes, your Highness,” Kaveh grumbles. “Whatever your majesty says.”
“Extra chilli.”
“No.”

“Are you alright?”
For the second time that day, Kaveh shrieks.
He scrambles backward in a blind panic because there is absolutely no one in the ruins aside from him and the voice is coming from—
The robot. Who is sitting up slowly, turning towards Kaveh. And then it tilts its head to the side, as if in question.
Kaveh blinks.
The robot takes it as him not having heard, apparently, because it repeats, “Are you alright?” and now that Kaveh’s listening properly he can hear the rust in its voice. Raspy and a little grinding like gears being used for the first time in years.
Kaveh finds a strangely human construct in the ruins of a temple, and despite himself, takes the time to try to fix it.
He just didn't think it would actually, y'know, work.

Kaveh scoffs, then, but even he can’t deny the fond grin playing at his lips at Alhaitham’s words. “And there’s the ego everyone talks about.”
“Is it ego if I am simply confident in our abilities?”
“Uh, yes? Usually this is led by a team of people?”
“We’re better than a team.”
“Wow, how romantic. Truly, I’m swooning.”
“I knew I’d get you one day,” Alhaitham says flatly, and Kaveh breaks, bursting into loud, delighted laughter.

When he voices the question, Kaveh just laughs. “Let’s keep it between you and me, hm?” he whispers conspiratorially, pushing the paper container towards Alhaitham. “I got you spicy sausages and egg rolls with some meat skewers. And mushrooms because you need your vegetables.”
“Mushrooms aren’t vegetables.”
“Listen,” Kaveh says, exasperatedly, “the lady gave them to me for free, so stop being ungrateful and just eat them.”

Slowly, her brain came back to Runeterra. She blinked, trying to focus on her surroundings. Vi had been laid to rest on an old, tattered red chair tucked against a bean bag so she could stretch out her legs. Above her, there was a colorful canopy illuminated with string lights. Amongst the clutter on the little table sat a ragdoll with a body made out of a music box with woven bright magenta hair.
Vi had an idle thought of the ragdoll being dressed in a vaguely familiar manner, before her eyes landed on her own younger face, painted in watercolor inside a wooden frame.
The recognition took a moment to sink in. “What the fuck?”
