Summary
“I don’t skate,” Jax said with a purposeful air of indifference. “It’s unbefitting of my masculine persona.”
Pomni snorted.
“Don’t or can’t?”
“Third option: won’t!”
He punctuated his sentence with a light flick to the jester's forehead.
“Alright.”
She sighed dramatically, throwing her hands, and the skates, in the air in defeat. She started skating towards the rink entrance and called back towards the booth.
“I guess I’ll just go skate with Ragatha and Kinger then, have fun moping!”
Jax’s ear twitched in annoyance. Before his brain could catch up with him, he’d already bolted out of his seat and snatched the roller skates from Pomni’s raised hand.
“Fine! If you insist.”

Summary
As a reward, Caine takes everyone to the Digital Carnival to enjoy a day of fun. But does he have ulterior motives? Maybe, but with Jax on the loose and an overly happy Gangle in tow, there's way more important things to worry about. It's going to be "fun".

this isn’t really related to the main plot but I love the little detail about the bet they had that pomni was bald under her hat that’s so silly

Summary
Pomni attempts to push herself up, but when she does, her chest throbs again, the simple act of moving her arms irritating her ribs like salt rubbed in an open wound. She grunts, her lips pulling back into a bared-teeth grimace, and then she tries again.
This time, when she bends her left leg to press her foot against the floor and use it for leverage in getting herself up, a new pain ambushes her. But unlike the ache in her ribs, this isn’t a deep, throbbing pain. This is something fierce and malignant, striking her nerves with all the animosity of a rabid wolf tearing its jaws into the throat of a sheep. It actually startles her so much that she squeals like a baby animal, shocked by just how badly it hurts.
One look down at her left ankle is enough to tell her exactly why such a horrid torture birthed straight from the ninth circle of Dante’s Inferno has come to torment her.
Pomni doesn't know how to let people care about her.
Unfortunately, after a leg injury leaves her bedridden, she has no choice but to be fussed over.

Summary
She got in here on Wednesday.
Was it Wednesday? She thinks back. She woke up Friday, right, and saw that she wasn’t in her bedroom. The weird room she wasn’t familiar with was painted deep blue with red crown molding in the shape of carousel horses. There was a clock tick, tick, ticking away, but aside from it, there was a bunch of random crap that looked like it belonged in a circus.
She had reeled out of the room, disoriented and afraid, into a bright and overly colorful hallway. She screamed and yowled and panicked until a living doll emerged from another door and came over to calm her down, assuring her that everything was okay and she was fine.
And then, the memories came back to her, and remembered where she was.
She was trapped.
So—that was all Friday.
It's been about a week since Pomni appeared in the Digital Circus. She hasn't gotten much better compared to that first day.
In fact, she may have gotten worse.

Summary
There are little things more disconcerting than staring at your own guts. Horror movies often like to present the small intestines as a pinkish shade, but now that she’s gotten the chance to really look at them, Pomni knows that they’re actually a deep, reddish-pink color, closer to scarlet, if anything.
Also, they’re slippery.
Like, really slippery.
--
After you see your own organs working like they’re meant to, it really makes you notice just how much movement there is inside of you.
--
OR: Nobody survives an animal attack without sustaining damage to the body and mind. But for Pomni, despite the severe injuries she received, it's her mind that suffers the most in the aftermath.

Summary
“Jax…” Pomni says uneasily, but she knows he can’t hear her.
“Don’t you guys think this is going a little too slow?” Jax asks before shoving the lever upward.
“Jax—!!” Pomni hears Gangle squawk before she cuts herself off with a yelp.
The carousel stutters for just a second before spurring into much faster motion than before, faster than Pomni thought a merry-go-round could go. It’s so sudden that Pomni jolts forward and is shoved into the pole by the unexpected acceleration, and she feels herself slip on the slick saddle beneath her. She wobbles unsteadily, and the up and down locomotion of her horse does not help her regain her balance in the slightest. In fact, she loses it even more, and oh how she longs for that hand on her waist from her memory to keep her in place.
—
It was meant to just be a nice time at the carnival.
Why does it seem like Pomni’s existence was made to suffer?

Summary
“TWO HOURS!”
“Oh geez…” Jax mutters behind his fork.
“That’s how long I was out there waiting for someone to find me! Two hours!” Pomni shouts as she storms into the Tent. She’s shivering and soaking wet from being out in the rain. Caine had made the group do an elaborate game of manhunt out on the Grounds for that day’s “adventure,” and Pomni was hiding for what felt like forever, only for no one to find her. “Did nobody think to tell me that the game was over?!”
By the way everyone is seated at the conjured dinner table, already half-finished with their dinner, she has her answer without a word being spoken.
And then Kinger says, “Jax said he saw you go to your room.” He looks over at the purple rabbit.
Jax merely gives a shrug. “Whoops. Guess I was mistaken.”
--
After being left out in the rain, Pomni becomes sick with the flu.
She's more upset that she was left out in the rain, though.
