Summary
Somebody need me too much
Somebody know me too well
Somebody pull me up short and put me through hell
And give me support for being alive
Make me alive
Make me alive. //
Somebody crowd me with love
Somebody force me to care
Somebody make me come through
I'll always be there
As frightened as you, to help us survive
Being alive

It's easy to see what caught Robby's eye. Dennis' cuticles are a mess.

Summary
The Soldier stutters forward, placing its metal hand upon the bedsheets. "Permission to speak," it croaks.
"Granted." The handler holds its gaze.
"What...what is my mission?"
The handler considers for a moment, then: "Effective immediately, your mission is to obtain optimal levels of hydration, caloric intake, and sleep for at least seven continuous days. Understood?"
The Soldier nods. This is a test of its self-sufficiency. Its new owners want to know what it functions like at peak performance. Furthermore, the Soldier suspects that its owners want it to acclimate to these luxuries.
So they can take them all away again.

Summary
“I know it’s hard. It’s so hard, I know, I’m sorry,” Jack tells him, soaping the inside bend of his knee, making sure not to miss a single bit of him. “I’m so sorry. But I’ve got you.”
Robby’s eyes flutter back open, tears clumping his lashes together. Jack sets the sponge aside for a moment, rinsing his hands so he can take Robby’s face between his palms, sweeping his thumbs beneath his eyes. He clears away his tears, leans in, presses a kiss so softly to his downturned mouth, his wet-sparkling beard.
“I love you,” Jack promises him, their lips brushing as he speaks. “I love you, I love you. You’re going to be okay.”
or: robby has a bad day and reaches his breaking point. jack steps in and takes care of him when he gets home.

Summary
Robby was used to coming up to the roof. By this point in time, the way the early morning hit against the rooftop, sparkling across the concrete, was a decoration he was used to. It made the place look encrusted at times, catching on broken bottles that never got cleaned up, on rocks that somehow stayed up here, only amplified by the way gold foiled over everything.
It was gorgeous, on days when he actually had shifts. When he hadn't been called and texted by John, who told him something was wrong with Jack today. That they got too many cases that hit Jack right in the chinks in his armor, arrowheads to sensitive gaps, and by the end of the night, John had stayed on the roof for the fifteen minutes it took Robby to get here.
Or; Robby gets called by Shen that Jack's on the roof, and he's standing way too close to the edge for comfort. Eventually, they go home, and Robby takes care of Jack so sweetly.

Summary
Months after PittFest, Robby is still struggling, still drowning. But time should heal all wounds, as the saying goes. Except he is really starting to doubt it.
Thankfully, Jack still has faith and he is determined to get Robby help. If Robby is willing to accept it, that is.
Robby's backpack slipped from his shoulder and he let it drop next to his feet. He couldn’t take his eyes off the river below. The Allegheny river flowed tirelessly, had been doing so for centuries, for longer than the United States had existed.
It would be easy to slip. The railing wasn’t even that high. He didn’t mean to imagine himself falling, but the image imposed itself on his mind. He saw his torso leaning against the metal. He saw himself slip forward. He saw his body slice through the air. He saw it land into the muddy waters. He saw it disappear below the surface.
He didn’t see it go up.

Summary
Dennis’s dad is dying of terminal lung cancer. Robby is taking two weeks off work to look after himself.
He uses that time instead, to take a car-less, licence-less, and broke Dennis back home to Broken Bow. Half because he’s avoiding his problems, and half because he has a crush. They are both very very guilty about it.
—
Robby took long, deep breaths, trying to get Dennis to mirror him, and however shaky they were, it still worked. Dennis was slowly starting to calm down. “Okay. Perfect. Dennis, can I call you that?”
He nodded.
“…do you have a driver’s licence, Dennis?” It felt like for the first time, Robby was actually really getting to know the guy.
He shook his head, no.
“Dennis, I’ll drive you to Broken Bow.”

Summary
“Where does it hurt?”
“What?”
“The pain. I’m not playing this fucking game with you anymore. Where is the pain?” He waited, stared, until finally Dennis’s eyes came up from the floor and locked in on his own. “You’re one of the most driven people I’ve had the pleasure of working with in a long time, Whitaker, and you are off your game in a big way. I’ve seen you sit down more times in the past eight hours than I’ve seen you sit ever. You’re barely eating, you’re dragging ass, and -please excuse how direct I’m being when I say this- you’ve been downright bitchy the past three days.” Dennis’s face fell, and he tilted his head back down, eyes locking in and beginning to count the speckles in the tile floor, until long, deft fingers met his chin and tilted his face back upward, forcing him back into the eye contact that would be his undoing. “Tell me where it hurts.”
