The Mage’s head pops off of his body, like a cheap toy (like a Robin Hood action figure that one of the kids in care left behind when they aged out). There’s hardly any blood, which is good, considering Baz is already holding a hand over his mouth to keep me from seeing his fangs. The whole White Chapel smells like iron- I’m surprised he’s keeping it together so well.
I’d always thought I’d be more angry when one of the Old Families tried to kill the Mage. He was my mentor, after all, but I’m just so tired. His head rolls to my feet, and I think about how it doesn’t quite look real. I’m still hanging onto Baz’s hand, but I haven’t looked at him yet. He’s shaking, I can feel it. “All the same,” Dabi said, lips curving as he took another sip.
Hawks sighed and leaned against the counter across from him. Only a few feet separated them now. His arms crossed loosely, exhaustion still tugging at his expression. “You know, I could get in a lot of trouble for letting you prance around my kitchen like this.”
“Maybe so.” Dabi tilted his head, blue eyes gleaming in the dark room as he grinned.
