    The first time Jason had died at the Joker’s hands, had ironically been an accident.

    Jason laughed, wet and cold and detached and bordering on demented. Maybe bleeding out on accident would be better slightly than the Joker killing him, maybe there was some autonomy there, not as much freedom as dying with his own hands would bring but maybe enough that he could be satisfied to die like this.

    He felt a sensation he could only describe as the last of his blood leaving his lungs with it an intense gasp for breath. Then all of the darkness surrounding him became a blinding white light. And Jason’s consciousness returned to the land of the living.

    Or: While being tortured by the Joker, Jason Todd discovers he has the power or curse of resurrection. After his months of torment, he learns to live with his power and trauma in turn, and of course, he takes it upon himself to raise Damian, because he didn't have enough on his plate already.

    His eyes adjust to the light to see MJ, grinning at him from the poolside. Her curly hair is rustling softly in the wind, and her brown are eyes glinting in the light, giving them an orange hue. God, she's beautiful. He suddenly sinks back under the water, but his body seems to have forgotten how to swim. Alas, he's trying to keep his head afloat, trying to see her, only to feel hands holding him up. He gets pushed above water, gasping and sputtering. Peter whirls around, only to come face to face with his best friend.

    Ned is treading water alongside Peter. His black hair is flat against his forehead, and his smile could light up New York. He laughs and splashes Peter, and he remembers now, their day at MJ's house. Having a pool was something rare in New York. Ned is smiling with so much warmth, and the hands around his shoulders feels almost like a hug.

    He nearly melts into an embrace.

    But then it all stops, and he sinks right back under again.

    More water invades his sinuses, and he coughs and shuts his eyes.

    And then he opens them.

    And all Peter sees is green.

    They all have 'Everyone Loves Tim Drake' and that is on purpose

    There’s no connected storyline, so don’t worry about continuity <33

    (I know that it's tagged as mature but there is NO SMUT OR ANYTHING OF THE SORT. The most you get is a REFERENCE to the... Ra's sister incident in Red Robin and that's definitely not shown in an attractive way. Mature is due to references to situations such as suicide, self harm, and overall harmful incidents, with only 2 fics so far actually focusing on such. Stay safe everyone, you are not alone.)

    Jason died.

     

    Give me a friend, Tim thought with all the firmness he could muster. Something twisted in his gut, and a weird tingling came from his fingers, the kind he got when his arm fell asleep.

    All of a sudden, he was exhausted. What? Tim scowled at the feeling, forcing himself to sit up. It took him a moment to realize, but someone was standing in front of him. The edges of him - it was a boy, practically a grown-up - flickered for a moment, like static on a TV, before turning normal again.

    He was dressed in bright colors, red and green and yellow like a traffic light - like Robin. The costume was torn right over where the ‘R’ was supposed to be, and it was kind of bloody - really bloody.

     

    Gotham is a city of tragedies, wrapped up in enough grief that while Tim knows that Robin has died, he doesn't connect that to his new imaginary friend. There's no reason to; Tim is a normal boy, by Gotham's standards.

    It turns out Gotham's standards are fairly abnormal.
