It was just an ordinary walk to a restaurant. Tim had insisted that if they were going to talk, there would be no tape recorders or weird Archives ghosts listening in. A bit of fresh air wouldn’t kill him, Tim had said. What could go wrong?
By the time Jon spots the white delivery van, it’s much too late.
The Stranger kidnaps Jon. Tim comes along for the ride.

Summary
All Jon wants is a quiet life, far away from Elias’ clutches - even if it means living in a drafty old cottage isolated from the next village. Jon is a mage, after all, and people are reasonable to fear both him and the patron who grants Jon his powers. But then there’s Tim, who greets Jon with nothing but kindness, and when Tim asks for help Jon finds himself unable to say no.
Together, they embark on a journey to find Tim’s missing brother. A journey that turns out to be more dangerous than they expected, and that leads Jon right back to the horrors he tried so long to escape. Thankfully, having a friend at his side might make all the difference.

_________________________One hand is dotted with a few stray circular marks, little white dots where the worms had eaten through him. Every once in a while, they itch and he swears that the worms are still there, moving under his skin and waiting to devour him. As a child, Jon loved rain. He loved the splatter of raindrops on his skin, the damp smell lingering in the air-- he even loved watching worms wriggle in the mud, so different from the twitching, skittering legs of spiders. He wonders if he’ll ever love rain again.
His other hand is marred by the ugly, rippling pattern of a hand seared into his skin-- pale and reddish, barely healed. As a child he loved warming balls of candle wax between his hands, rolling and molding them into shapes. Now, he looks down at his hand and remembers the smell of cooking flesh, the blistering heat, the feeling of every nerve in his hand set alight and screaming at him to pull away, to run, to do anything other than just let his skin peel and melt away. Needless to say he won’t be going near candles any time soon.
He stares at his hands. Stares at the bottle of lotion standing on his desk, right where Martin put it earlier after not-so-subtly commenting on how dry his hands looked. The bottle proudly advertises its profound healing effects in a friendly, curling script.

Summary
Jon, frustrated with Elias and traumatized from his time with the Circus of the Other, makes a statement about his kidnapping and the aftermath in an effort to get his mind off of it, with little success. Martin accidentally overhears part of it, and is absolutely horrified. Comfort ensues.
