Tommy’s lungs burned as he coughed. He coughed to the point it hurt, and then when he went to draw in a breath, smoke filled his lungs again. He hacked and spat, and tried desperately to breath.
He didn’t understand what was going on. Tommy fought to make sense of his surroundings, but the panic crowding his mind threatened to overwhelm him. There was a weight on his legs. A really heavy one. He couldn’t move and he couldn’t see anything past the black smoke filling his vision and lungs. Something crackled nearby and a warmth was growing to his left.
The ship had crashed. The thought hit Tommy like a hammer. This was a crash and he was stuck in it
TLDR: Tommy's ship crashes on an alien planet and the rest of the SBIs are sent to figure out what the fuck happened. Tommy is human, the rest of the SBI are not. Oh, also humans are a new species.

Summary
The Dresqill had been a planet of conquerors that plagued the solar system, colonizing planets and enslaving their inhabitants.
Until Oblivion. Or Terra, as it was later renamed by the Council. The Dresquill ventured into the distant solar system only to send back frenzied reports and distress signals. It's unclear if they were left to die on that planet or if they were simply exterminated before help could arrive, but the reports they sent were saved and served as a warning to avoid Oblivion.
Now traffickers have managed to capture two creatures from Oblivion, placing them in the same cells as the other prisoners in an attempt to torture them. But perhaps these beings have been misunderstood this whole time? They look like of cute-- Nope, they're deadly.

Phil brought a fucking human to their ship. A fucking human from Terra. One of the most violent and mysterious species by every universe’s standards. The human looks so tiny in Techno’s paws, dwarfing itself in the Lepus-Piglin hybrid’s figure. When Wilbur spotted puffy golden strands of fur sprouting out of the human’s head, he knew precisely why Technoblade was the one who brought it here. Piglins were infamous for their undying love for anything gold-colored after all, he didn’t blame him, even though Technoblade was technically still half Piglin.
Judging by the human’s small body size, Wilbur hypothesized that it was still just a hatchling, Terrans couldn’t be this small, right? The small thing seemed to be about 1.7 space acres tall in estimation, but he couldn’t tell since the being was in Techno’s arms.
His elytran instincts screamed bloody murder when the hybrid set the human on a padding, yelling that harm might come to his flock and that he should get rid of this unknown variable as quickly as he could.
But Wilbur trusts Phil’s judgment in bringing the human to their ship, temporarily, at least.
(Or, space AU where SBI picks up a human, and someone isn't very happy about their decision.)

Wouldn't it be funny if like all the aliens have some magic crystal that can turn vibrations into tachyons? And they all use those to harness the tachyon background radiation, which totally exists, to power their societies?
Wouldn't it be cool if the intergalactic community was only knit together by a communications network, because the ease of access to energy never pushed them to develop spacefaring technology? Or develop science anywhere near as much as engineering?
How do you think Humanity would react to that, having gotten by without that crystal, having built a dyson swarm and now finally finding a tiny crystal after all, shouting into the void, but for the first time, receiving an answer?

What if when we get to space and we find out that all our movies, stories, etc. where humans are weak and (honestly) pathetic compared to most of the species in the galaxy, were wrong. What if we are actually the strong ones? The crazy ones? The hard-to-kill ones? The dangerous ones? Or maybe even the adorably cute ones? The ones that will out-progress most other species because we take seemingly too big/stupid risks and it pays off?
