Summary
Aziraphale's last words to the one being he could ever say he loved were "I forgive you," but he knows that Crowley will never forgive him. Nina and Maggie try to convince him that he can make it up to the demon, but Aziraphale is only staying on Earth until he accepts that their relationship is truly over.
Crowley has left London with nothing but his car and his plants, and hopes never to return again. He knows now that Aziraphale does not love him the way he loves the angel, and so all that is left for him to do is try to build a life without him.
Both of them are struggling alone, wishing that their story, their centuries-long partnership, had not ended the way it did. Will they get a chance to write a different ending?

After the events of the War of the Ring, the day before Aragorn is to be crowned, the fellowship is shocked to discover that Boromir has in fact survived and has returned to Minas Tirith.
What happens next is a re-imagining of the very end of RoTK and onwards in Gondor, with a focus on Boromir and how he, along with his brother Faramir, would live out their lives under the rule of King Elessar. But Izzy had lived for the better part of four decades on this earth, there wasn’t much else for him out there, and the bottom line was that Edward did not need him anymore - and Izzy was tired. He was so goddamn tired.
“Are you quitting on me, Iz?” Edward asked, speaking for the first time, and his eyes had a mix of rage, longing and heartbreak that made him want to keel over and die. Bonnet fell silent, mouth gaping open, but he couldn’t even appreciate the absence of sound - his heart drummed so loudly it felt like his head was a drum. Thump-thump.Thump-thump.
“I will leave the ship at the next port,” he repeated, looking Edward straight in the eyes, “Captain.”
(In which Stede comes back, and Izzy struggles until he learns how to lean on.)
