Summary
Hob Gadling is a washed-up Pairs figure skater trying to make it as a solo male skater before he finally reaches retirement age in a few years, with the ghost of his former partner and wife hanging over him.
When Dream Endleis, arguably the best figure skater in the world, approaches him with a proposition, to teach him to skate a Pairs routine that they do, well. Dream is mad, and Hob tells him so.
But Dream needs help, and Hob is in a position to help him. So, he packs up his things, moves in, and gets to training.
He isn't expecting to become friends with Dream. Or to skate well with him. Or fall in love with him.

Summary
Hob Gadling has always been careful with his heart, which is not to say that he doesn’t allow himself to fall in love. When the newest love of his very long life sticks in a way he didn’t anticipate, the arrival of an old, assumed to be unrequited, love complicates things. There’s also the very small problem of his immortality, her all-too-human self, and the temperament of the anthropomorphic personification of the collective human unconsciousness, who truly is trying to be a better friend, and perhaps more.
Or, Hob always did think the phrase “three’s a crowd” was a bit misleading.

Summary
It is a truth universally acknowledged by anyone with any magical inclinations - that you did not fuck with the Endless. Not that anyone has seen them in centuries, with the exception of a few, but they are Not To Be Fucked With by every possible measure. It's a known fact - no matter the creature asking - be it fae, draconic, undead, or otherwise. To court the audience of an Endless is to court something far worse.
Hob never was the wisest dragon, and he freely admitted that.

Summary
In 1689, Hob Gadling and Dream meet once more, after Hob has lost everything. That night, their meeting goes on longer than expected when the conversation turns to what it means to live, to lose, and to be the fathers of dead sons. Unable to bear the thought of sending a man who so echoes Dream's own grief back into the night alone, Dream breaks his own rule and invites Hob to stay with him for a time, at least until he can get back on his feet.
The story of two grief-stricken, divorced, and widowed fathers to sons they lost too young truly seeing one another and there, at their lowest point, doing their best to put themselves and each other back together.

When Dream of the Endless comes back to Hob Gadling, Hob is determined to be a Very Good Friend to him, because Dream's been through some stuff, and if what he needs is a safe haven, then Hob is going to give him that.
It's what he gives to everyone else at the New Inn, after all.
And alright, maybe that's not all he wants, but it's not about what he wants, it's about what Dream needs, so Hob is going to look after him as best he can, and try not to break his own heart in the meantime.

After scathing words from his ex-wife, Dream is left to consider his failures that had brought low those he loved and who had once loved him. He had failed his son, disowned the boy even as Orpheus had disowned him in turn. Faced with the knowledge that Calliope was right, and with inspiration from his sister Death, he takes the old adage of walking a mile in someone’s shoes quite literally. Dream decides to spend a year and a day forgoing his power to walk among mortals as one of them with the belief that by the time he reaches Orpheus it will be with a new understanding deep enough to beg forgiveness.
His pilgrimage begins at the one place in the waking world with which he is currently familiar, the White Horse tavern, only to swiftly find out he is woefully ill-prepared. Dependent on the aid of an unexpected companion in one Hob Gadling, Dream must not only learn to be honest with himself, but honest with others as well.

Summary
It's 2022 and Hob's got his Stranger back in his life. His Stranger, who's now his friend and who drops by more than once a century. Bloody fantastic, if you ask him.
Though of course, it doesn't last. Dream disappears again; this time to fight the hordes of Hell that have invaded the Dreaming.
Hob could just sit this one out, but hey- That doesn't sound much like him, does it? So he does what any sensible bloke would do, not that he's ever been one: sneaking into the Dreaming, hell-bent on fighting this war on Dream's side, where he belongs.
