“Did you ever honestly see him as a brother?”
Dick feels like he is getting stabbed right in the chest. It feels like something is clawing at his throat, pouring acid into the deepest, most painful injury he has. He will never forgive himself for not being able to find Jason before the Joker killed him. Losing Jason is the single worst thing that has ever happened to him.
And now this bastard is confirming his worst fears: that Jason died thinking he didn’t love him. That he had begged for help from his family - a family that never arrived.
It’s enough to crack him. Tears run down his face.
“I still do,” he whispers.
“Forgive me for not buying it,” Red Hood growls, even though his heart has sped up at the words. “If you had truly cared for him -"
Dick knows that Red Hood is playing with his head, but he needs to let this out.

He has never argued with a punishment, not since he was a toddler, if then. Surely she’ll listen, surely she’ll see this is too harsh, that he wouldn’t be disrespecting her like this if he was simply sulking over not getting his way. He needs that food, needs to be able to eat enough if he wants to be Robin.
He’s been hungry before, but back then, it never mattered if he was a little weak or dizzy. It never risked his life or the life of his partner when he was a kid.
She turns, sighing softly and pursing her lips. She reaches out to pat his cheek, and for a moment his heart soars hopefully, and he barely restrains himself from leaning into the rare bit of contact and soaking up his mother’s touch. “Oh, Timothy,” she tuts. “This is for the best. And honestly, I think it’s wise for you to cut down a bit on the snacks. I’d hate to have to listen to anyone tittering at the next gala that you’re getting chubby.”
And without another backwards glance, she turns and heads upstairs, leaving Tim alone and frozen at the bottom of the steps.

"Oh my god," Jason groaned to himself, instantly turning and walking over to the hole leading out, preparing his grapple so he could leave. He did not have time for this.

Jason doesn't run the distance to the manor, but it's only out of concern from causing Tim more pain. The kid is mostly limp across Jason's shoulders - which is both good that he's not struggling but also concerning that he's not struggling, considering Jason just broke into his house and kidnapped him. "Hey, Tim, you good?" he asks.
"Hurts," Tim mutters.
"I know it does, baby bird. We're almost home." The word comes out before he thinks about it, and he grits his teeth.
"Who... who are you?" Tim asks.
"Nobody, kid. I'm nobody you need to worry about."
Not anymore, at least.

Jason jerks back as a metal pipe spears through the bottom of the vent a foot in front of his face, the end of it sharpened into a savage, jagged point. He stares at it for a long moment, dumbfounded, before it disappears back through the hole it made with a horrible shriek of metal on metal. The hole is about three inches wide, the edges bent up into sharp, uneven scraps.
Jason lost his helmet back when their earlier fight had gotten out of hand, and he’s suddenly vividly aware of how vulnerable his face is, how vulnerable his eyes are, and he can barely lift his head more than a couple of inches in this position – definitely not enough to be out of range. There’s a vague murmur coming from the goons down below, but Jason can’t make out the words through the buzz of panic in his ears. He’s a sitting duck if they realize someone’s up here.
He glances at Tim, who’s frozen, staring at Jason with mirrored shock.
Oh, fuck.
