Summary
Bucky doesn't want to talk about life in LA. Or the icy numbness in his chest. Or how shattered he is without Steve. Or how he doesn't know who he is anymore. Or the supposed choices he has to come home.
But when Steve calls him babe out of habit, he decides to let him. At least for the weekend.
It's a lesson in choices and consequences and finally figuring out what's important.

You can't unmake a choice. Decisions in life aren't like making a bed or choosing a path. You made it, it's done. You don't unmake it or remake it like a do over. You just make a different choice and live with those consequences. Each day is a choice. And the consequences, good or bad, of staying here aren't the same as the consequences of coming back. Just like the consequences of leaving aren't the same as the consequences of staying gone.

Summary
Despite the fact that Steve and Bucky have ‘settled down’, Bucky never really settled. Bucky still works as a SHIELD agent while he also is the mother of eight year old twins and a toddler. Work and family are keeping him on his toes when suddenly it all gets more complicated than usual. A disaster shuts down his children’s private school, forcing Bucky to enroll them in what he considers to be a total nightmare: The Public School System. The Winter Soldier tries to make adjustments in his life but things just keep spiraling more and more out of his control. In the midst of dealing with his friends, being hopelessly in love with his mate, and raising three hellions Bucky’s worst nightmare of all comes to fruition. After eight years of keeping his children a secret from the world, the word is out. The Winter Soldier and his family have gone public.

The blush had to be obvious, but Steve ignored it. “Did she now?” He wondered if she’d disclosed the topics of those particular dreams.
“I’ve been having nightmares about you,” Bucky admitted. “About killing you and then remembering who you were.”
“You didn’t though,” Steve said stepping forward. “I’m fine.”
“You’re not fine.” Bucky’s voice was getting louder. “You’re charging off on suicide missions. You’re trying to leave right now, to go back to getting yourself killed.”
“Then give me a reason to stay.”

Bucky gives a small little smile, eyes flickering between the camera lens and Steve’s eyes a few inches above. It’s obvious that he’s nervous, but trying to hide it. Steve reaches out from where he’s kneeling between Bucky’s spread legs, lowers the camera so it’s focused on his torso. His lithe body, slim and sweet. Steve’s hand runs up and down the valley of his abdomen. It’s enough to get him eased into it, warmed up.

While on a mission storming a HYDRA facility, James Buchanan Barnes touches one of the many strange alien devices collected by the Red Skull. He does this, in fact, twice— in the past, and in the future.
Next thing he knows, Bucky Barnes is opening his eyes in the 21st century, which is full of great gadgets and coffee, and at least includes his old pal Steve. (And, inexplicably, a different Stark.) Meanwhile, the Winter Soldier finds himself in the middle of World War Two, helping Captain America hunt down HYDRA (which is at least familiar), pretending to be Bucky Barnes (which is not), and figuring out the very noisy group of soldiers who call themselves the Howling Commandos.
