Clancy reaches up and lets his fingers rest beneath Josh’s chin before tracing his thumb, feather-light, over the lower end of the welt. Josh freezes perfectly still. With his good eye, he watches the anger in Clancy’s expression slowly dismantle itself into passivity once more.
He is a good vialist and always has been.
“What was your question?” he asks, so soft that Josh almost can’t hear him over the beating of his blood in his ears. His thumb passes a second time over the tender spot on Josh’s face. He doesn’t flinch.
“I wanted to know if the Bishops really hear our prayers."

Years ago, if Josh’s hair was this length, Tyler would've done something like brush it out of his face. Even with the mix of emotions he’s feeling right now, he fights the urge.

“Cool,” Clancy says, rolling over onto his back. The open mesh of the tent is just translucent enough to make out the beginnings of stars dotting the sky. “Maybe once we’re out of here, and like, married and stuff, then we’ll have a garden.”
The Torchbearer sits up. The sound of the swishy fabric rubbing against itself is almost too loud, so Clancy has to strain his ears to make it out when the Torchbearer says “what the fuck?”

So, Kate Bishop. Yes, Yelena tries not to think about her. The missions usually help. The alcohol definitely helps. But there’s no vodka here, no extraction team coming, no last-minute reprieve. Just the steady beep-beep-beep of the timer and the temperature that rises along with the cold acceptance that there’s no getting out of this one.

The kid shoots up and he looks scared out of his mind for a second before scowling. “I’m not a fuckin’ kid,” he snaps. Wilbur laughs softly, the kids eyes are blue, they remind him of Phil.

The kids’ bristling demeanor dies down instantly and he looks suddenly much more nervous. The kids posture is shit, Wilbur notices, his shoulders are up and slouched over his chest almost protectively. He starts fidgeting with sleeves of his shirt and he quickly but quietly pulls out a five dollar bill, he slides it across the bar to Wilbur.
“Could I have a- could I get a-“ He pauses, shakes his head and looks up.
“Hamburger and sweet potato fries,” He says it with a confident voice but scared eyes and body language.or phil, techno, and wilbur own a diner and tommy becomes a regular customer. one found family arc later and they adopt him

“Sure, but that doesn’t sound like the massive favour you were bigging it up to be,” Wilbur seemed hesitant, clearly worried about asking too many questions when Tommy had already warned him away from them.
“Bitch,” Tommy said fondly, relaxing into his chair and ignoring the curious glances he was getting from his teacher and social worker. “I also may need you to drive to my college and talk to some people so that I’m allowed to stay over at yours. You don’t have a criminal record, do you?”
Tommy makes a mistake that ends with his teachers finding out more about his home life than he'd ever wanted them to. Wilbur finding out was just icing on top of the pile of shit he was calling a cake.

But then he met his co-star in a new royalty show and it all changed.
He had something. A friend. Maybe even a brother.
Yet, only a brother on screen. Only in the words recited from a script. It wasn't real when Wilbur called him his brother despite the cameras not rolling. It couldn't be.
But he still caved into the part of him that yearned it to be true.
~ 5 times Tommy didn't think it was real + 1 time Wilbur made him believe it.

The kid perked his head up and Wilbur sighed. It wasn’t like he hadn’t dealt with a foster kid before, this office was one of the only ones in London that accommodated the United Kingdom Foster Care services, he was used to seeing quite a few foster children a month. They never stayed, however. One or two appointments was all it took for their social worker to be ushering them off into another city.
“Tommy, please. I go by Tommy,” the kid made his way to Wilbur and stopped a few steps in front of him, leaving a good amount of distance between the two.
Wilbur nodded solemnly, “Got it. Tommy. I’ll remember that, come with me.”
Or; Wilbur is a therapist, Tommy is a traumatized foster kid. Everyday is the same until it's not.
